Khorne Champion.

This was bought on a bit of a whim - love the sculpt and the pose.

Lots more work needed on the face, the cape, the arm...erm...pretty much everywhere ;)

I think this guy looks pretty awesome already :) Did you darken the skull on his helmet on the last picture? Looks more aged there, like that. And did you change the eye-colour? Looks green to me on the second pic and that\'s a nice contrast to all the red I think!

Is there a left arm in work or is he supposed to stay so?

The other arm\'s on its way! As for the head, yeah he\'s got green eyes now, and slightly more orange tint to the helmet - mainly to make it standout a bit more. Alas, the photo doesn\'t quite bring out the eyes as much as I\'d like - in the flesh (so to speak) the green is much more prevalent, and there\'s a (very) slight touch of glow around them.

I can see the finish line now.

Ignore the green on the shield! I thought that I could paint over a glaringly obvious mould line. No matter what I attempted to pretend it was, it did eventually have to go :( - Hence hasty GS usage, and the hope I can get the colours to blend (it was a fairly big flaw :p ).

All the highlighting is excellent, except the cloak, especially the back.

It looks a little rushed, it could do with some more colour transitions. It would be easy to mix the paint and paint it in between the dark and light shades, 15min would make a big differance!

Good reds too.

It\'s good it could be great!

Thanks Donga! With regards to the back, loathe as I am to blame the photography, the sad fact is I\'m going to a little :p - The photo seems to bring the damn thing out much more red, when in effect the cloak has much more of a purple hue, which does tend to smoothe out the transitions a bit more - but I agree it does need some more work! It\'s the third attempt at getting the colours to work, so I\'ll see what I can do with it!

I really like how this is working out and I\'m admiring your skills! I especially like his axe, looks very real in my opinion.

One little thing, the skulls on his belt are looking rather white, while that on his head and his shield have this light touch of brown, which looks more bony in my opinion. Are the belt-skulls staying like that or are you going over them again?
I mean, they look great, too, better that I could do this and of course they could be..newly...acquired...skuls and therefore not so weathered as his helmet-skull ;)

To be honest, the skulls around the belt are a bit of a screw-up - they were the ones I did first, and instead of doing my usual (tried and tested...sigh) mix, I decided to try something different. It was only when I finished the other ones that they became more irritating to me! I\'m going to see what I can do to rectify them, without resorting to anything dramatic!

This any better (tried a blue background which does seem to give slightly better accuracy on the old colour front)

Wow, his cape/coat looks really different now...I like it! The axe\'s got a turquoise touch now..is that real or due to the blue background?

Great mini btw. ;)

Thanks! The turquoise is definitely on the axe - a result of a happy accident whch seemed to work quite nicely :D

Ah, okay! First I was a bit surprised about turquoise metal, but now I think it looks rather nice on a chaos warrior...makes the metal of his axe look a bit out-of-this-worldish ;)

That looks loads better, the background is alot more sympathetic.

Now do the base and we\'re good to go :D

Ill be honest, I dont like the new color for the cloak. I guess if I had never seen the old one I prob wouldnt have a prob, but its just too purple. I liked the old color better since it had some redish tones in it and seemed to just mesh better.

I\'m putting the blame squarely on the photos :p - in reality, when I\'ve been painting it, it\'s always been more purple than red, so for me it\'s worked out okay, but I\'m happy enough with the end result really - I\'m just waiting for everything to dry so I can hopefully take some pictures which can capture it all a little better (there are times I wish that I had a studio!). There are lots of things which if I really had the patience I could work on, but more than any other figure I\'ve done recently I\'m becoming increasingly aware that it could almost become overworked - it\'s almost reached that point, and I want to move on really!

Purely as a sculpt I really like the movement in the figure, but now that I\'ve painted it, I feel now that there\'s actually a little bit too much detail in it if you know what I mean. It\'s a little like Avatar of War\'s output - the detail is astonishing, but I think I prefer painting up something which has slightly cleaner lines!

It\'s been a great exercise though - learnt a lot of things, and have a few good \'recipes\' to bear in mind for the future :)

Nah, in my opinion the detail is okay, considering this guy is not a simple warrior, but more of a leader from his looks, all the skulls and that. ;) And therefore I like how he came out!

Well, the Khorne Champion is finished as much as I want to do really. I\'m please enough with it. I was given some advice from someone on another forum about the light position on the shield - strictly speaking the lighter area of the thing should be nearer the top left (as you look at it), which would make a bit more sense. However, you\'ve got to do what feels right to you at the end of the day, and consious of getting carried away with one change here, and one change there, I decided that actually, I kind of like the light hitting the shield where it is, so decided to leave it. Another comment was to add some sort of freehand on the cloak - something I thought about but decided that it really didn\'t suit the idea I had for the guy. That, and the fact that his cloak is decidedly worn and tattered made me think that fancy freehand wasn\'t really necessary -all the detail is on the front and if this guy was real and was walking towards you, the last thing you\'d be seeing is the front of him. Or possibly his axe just about to plough through your face!

So, here we go:

As always, thanks for the comments - the pros and the cons - always welcome!

When the photo\'s been approved by CMON I\'ll bung up a link!
