Khorne Juggernaut.

After much hesitation i finaly began painting my Khorne Juggernaut today. I decided to paint the rider and the mount separate from eachother and when it\'s all done glue the rider on to the juggernaut.

I\'m using Valejo and GW paints, going for a traditional Khorne Red/Brass combination. First i thought of doing an all brass Juggernaut, but chickened out. I\'m not sure i\'d pull that off.

Anyway, I\'m happy for any comments on highlightning, washes and other details.

I\'ll try adding a picture, but i\'m not sure it will work, so here is the link as well:

Thought I\'d pop the picture here for you!

Good start though - I like the red you\'re using. Nice and deep.

Remember to do a few layers instead of one thick one. Also It looks like the primer is a bit thick, remember when you prime you only really need to \"dust\" the mini not give it an even coat. I found also that When working with metallics mixing the base metallic with brown (since you are using bronze) to give it a rich even basecoat.

Id hit the bronze with a final highlight, after the wash and such, with shinning gold mixed with the bright bronze.

Id wash black/purple into the shadows, it gives a really deep look and emphasizes the brighter reds.

And everyones gonna say it, regardless if u are doing it, but make sure you thin those paints.

Keep it up, hope I helped a little.

Thanks for the pic Joek! How did you do that? I tried adding the pic both through an URL and as an attachment...

Monkey, you\'re right, thr primer is very thick. Thicker than i usually do on this one, by accident, but i\'ll try to just dust the minis in the future.

A purple wash? Sounds interesting, I\'ll try that. Otherwise i have a deep, smokey ink that might look good as well. I\'m afraid that a black ink wash might be a bit too dark though.

And i\'m working on thinning the paints. Trying to find a good water/paint mix. So far i seem to either add too much or too little.

I appreciate the pointers though! And i\'ll try posting a new pic tomorrow evening.

To bung in the pic, jus add:

(img) URL of picture (/img)

replacing the () for [ and ]

and that\'ll do the job!

Edit: I agree with purple advice - love putting it on reds, as it makes the colour really lovely and rich.

That said, I\'ve see blues and greens added into reds as well with just as effective results!

Ok, the juggernaut is just about finished. I placed it on a new base, i\'m pretty much done with the details - hard coat needed on the eyes and some minor adjustments on the hoofs, but i\'m pretty satisfied. I tried some purple wash as adviced, and it looks sweet.

Now, i need some opinions about the rider. As i see it i have three options. I could go for a red armour on the rider. Very traditional Khorne. But i\'m afraid that will just blen the rider to the mount creating a huge thing.

The other option is a black armour option with hard highlights on the edges and some hard coat to make the armour shiny and menacing looking.

As i see it the third option is a bronze armour, which is still very khornish, but makes the rider stand out from the mount it self.

Any suggestions and ideas would be welcome.

I\'ll see if i can\'t add the pic\'s here. Otherwise, check the link.

I decided to go with a black armour, with sharp highlights towards white. And i gave him a bronze helmet, just for the Khorne feeling of it.

It looks kinda chalky for now, but i think some finishing touches with some inks and washes will do the trick. I\'m also thinking of giving the rider a hard coat finish on the armour to make it look shiny and well kept - imagining a deamon armour doesent rust or wear down in tough weather.

Anyways, here it is.

I think it came out quite nicely the bottom picture really shows off the mounts red armor. The rider is good (Sometimes the GW minis are pretty busy) but he seems too separate from the mount. The only way I can imagine making him fit a bit more is maybe incorporating some red armor, like the knee pads or even the black space on the helmet \"wings\" or w/e youd call those things.

Monkeysplitters, i took up on your advice and added some red to the armour as you can see, and i think the result really fitted the rider to the mount. Thanks!

I gave the armour an \'ardcoat so it shines a bit. Which i think works just fine with the additional hard highlights on the edges.

I learned a lot painting this one. The importance of watering down the paints, doing several layers and maybe most important of all, some more patience. Now i need to learn how to take good pictures as well...

I think this one is a worthy army general for any chaos warriors army.

Let me know what you think.
