Its a totally wicked film, enjoyed it more than I enjoyed avatar. Much more
Was given the graphic novel as a present.
And yes its GRAPHIC.
I have no doubt that Hollywood will have diluted it for 'mainstream' audiences, but the graphic novel I found excellent..and though provoking.
That doesn't mean I'm going to be donning a uniform anytime soon though.:rotfl:

sorry to bring this old thread out of death. I happen to be great friends with the Real Dave Lisewski. He is a comic book collector who attends many events and cons. He bid to charity for the right to name the character for this story. He picked his own name. then got sneak previews of the comic before hitting print, script rewrites and copies...all sorts of cool stuff. So I had read the comics as it was selling out comic shops everywhere and burning through reprints, selling more than any other title around. just plain awesome. Then when the movie finally came out it was great to see how much they kept of the story (including all the graphic bits). And hearing your friends name again and again in a film is pretty cool. Just goes to show what can happen with just a charitable contribution, your name is famous. Too bad my friend doesnt get any of the money for it, but he loves every part of the story and is excited to be a part of it.
And for the record, Dave also had his name on a character in Darkness comics as a hitman sent to take out The darkness (issue 5 of the newer run) he lasted 2 pages and was dead. Rest in peace. The Real dave still collects comics and is not a super hero....That I know of.

It was an incredibly awesome film. Love the way they kept it open.

That movie is the best I've seen this year.
The hero is so good as he really embodies the geek even if he doesn't play video games. His evolution from an almost unsociable little comics fan to someone respected (and with a girlfriend) is something really interesting in that movie. My best friend was like him, just video games not comics, and he totally changed and almost became like Dave, now he feels better and I saw this movie with him and it reminded him his own story so that's my personnal reason to like that film.

His Adam West batman spin in the way he talked in costume had me in stitches. Brilliant touch. Nic Cage is an awesome actor.

I thought it was alright. Not the best film I've seen this past year but definetly not as bad as Inglorious Bastereds.
I do feel that McLovin has typecast himself though as he could have made a good comedy actor but has ended up playing McLovin on every film.
Best bit was the little girl swearing! Worth a view but I'm not sure if its worth a cinema ticket, didn't really have me laughing as much or wanting to see it again.

I just read the graphic novel and I am really disapointed. Its was actually nothing more than a paperback version of 4chans /b/: Senseless violence, stupid popcultural revereces, homophoby, racism and teenagers acting though. Meh. If the film is anything like that, I`ll gladly skip that.

I'd say the movie did well enough. I wasn't rolling in my seat laughing, but I certainly wasn't bored. The action scene with Big Daddy solo was smoothly done, and proves Nic Cage isn't a complete waste.
The excessive amount of blood in certain scenes had a real campy feel to it, almost like something Sam Raimi would have tried to pull off in his Evil Dead series. (even though to secure a lower rating they had to color the blood differently)
I think the movie does a fantastic job of showing just how mentally off your rocker you have to be to want to be a costumed hero.

Because that is exactly the same behaviour I've witnessed in the schools I support, as well in some GW stores.
