Actually, I should actually say that my name is Tom. My surname begins with a Y, hence tomy. It just looks hella odd seeing it written down by other peoples!

Money is a real pain in the ... Have you spent it on that there kickstarter though? :)

Minis! For example, I like the minis that come with Zombiecide Black Plague, Blood Rage and Rum & Bones (although I have not backed them).
I have backed, however, Black Sailors; which should be arriving pretty soon. Here's a link so you can be jelly...

Three days in, and a flurry of activity!
I jest, I jest.
My aim for tomorrow; build Maulg and undercoat him!

Spent last night filing away mould lines and prepping him in front of the telly. I'll probably stick him together and greenstuff the seams tonight.

oh god, I'm falling behind already. I was hoping to get all the prep done last month so I could get stuck straight into the painting but things never seem to go as planed. Should get some time over the next couple of days get him ready.

You are not the only one. I planned to have him prepped and started last weekend. Instead, i was cutting drywall, studs, and rewiring a bathroom for mother in law access.

I've given him a nice bath and sketched out my idea, now I need to unfortunately, cut him up a little bit.....

Oo...
Sounds daring!
It was nerve racking enough putting the axe into his hand - I really thought it'd snap... although I do like the fact that the weapon slots into his hand rather than having to glue the axe handle on a tiny point of contact.
How are people fixing the mould slip? I didn't really look at mine when it came, but now, popping him together there is a definite intent/raise - certainly not a scrape-able mould line. I thought milliput and smooth?

I painted him before, and ended up cutting huge lumps out of him and milliputing (if that's a word?) the details back in. The worse Figone mini I've had regarding mould slip

I can reiterate that this chap was indeed a pig to prep. Mine is almost more green stuff than anything else:

Some initial thoughts from me (apart from aargh-aargh-bloody-hell etc, obviously):

1. I've left off the crown. It's pretty much a detail-less lump anyway, but I don't think he's very kingly. He's a bit underdressed and uncouth. Not made a final decision, but I'm thinking my chap is going to be plain old 'mister Maulg'.

2. The main but I don't like is his beard. It's sort of too long for stubble and too short for proper beard growth. I'm tempted to make it bigger and better somehow, but not yet thought about how.

Anyway, hope you're all finding the prep easier and more satisfying than I did....

Okay, to follow up on my beard thoughts...

what's this? Well, a sort of strip of hair. Looks rubbish so far.

before it's fully cured but while it still holds its shape and detail, I braided it. I knew having a 4 yr old daughter would come in handy one day - good practice for this sort of thing.

Then we we add it to Mr Maulg:

and then add a bit under his chin, to blend it into his existing beard, et voila!

a proper beard. In the cold light of day I'm not sure if it works or not. I'll let it cure today then scrape a bit more detail into it - what do you all think?

Bit long for my tastes - maybe half the length. Otherwise - looks ace! Bit of bone to hold it together at the bottom, or just the classic ring of metal?

Yep, consensus is that it's a bit long. Also Maenas called it right that it is too chunky: I whittled it and whittled it and lost all the detail in it, so that was a cockup. I've since replaced with a shorter, thinner braid and will get pics up tomorrow.

I haven't got the end bit done yet: I was tempted to do a little bow, but thought it would be too silly. A ring is most likely, as the bone will be hard to shape without looking too cartoony (this from a man who thought a bow might work).

Well I have started on Steam-Maulg. View attachment 43457 I found an old boot in my bits, so hacked off his right leg and replaced it with a very fancy knee high. For his left arm I have stuck a piece of brass tube to a plastic gauntlet and an ogres hand ( I think) added a few micro screws and a couple of cogs. Next up is some form of steam pack/generator and something fancy for his head. I may even go with a bow-tie.

These are looking great. I finally finished prepping and priming mine but I'm not going to be as adventurous as you guys, just paint him as he comes. I've left the crown off but I may try to use it in the base somewhere.
I'm still not sure what colour to make the skin. I can't decide weather to go green, orangey brown or a pale blue & grey. don't think I'll be getting any time to paint until next week now any way so I still have plenty of time to mull it over.

Steampunk Maulg looks great! No idea how you come up with this stuff.

I've primed Mr Maulg with his new beard plait (below) - now like you BoardAndy I just need to figure out a colour scheme. I'm probably going to do somewhere between pink and green , but not sure where yet.

Currently undercoating (and blatantly ignoring some mouldlines..). It's been so long to get the motivation to fill in the slight gaps that now it's hell for leather to put some paint on!
Currently I have a thing for Coal Black - isn't it weird the colour preferences you go through? Anyway, it probably means Maulg will be light blue/green, with a pinkish highlight.
