Some progress toady, have just made some of the transitions smoother. hard to get a good photo of the skin thou. :)
It goes from very dark/black/green/blue to bright skintones (pink flesh )with some small glazes of red on top of that.

Hello!, just coming here to spy a bit ;)
I like all of the "entries" so far...

@Bgcd.: I like your colours, and the tattoo was a brave decision GREAT!! Imo. the scales at the back look a bit more like a mosaic than scales though... I do not know how you can correct that or if you feel it like that too. The pic from post number 59 showed scales from a better quality.. I think now that the older were better because they followed the muscles and skin patterns (kind of)...
@Boubi: your version looks like the more sharp of them all. I like what you have going on there ;)
@Kretcher: I like how you combined those colours from that blue-green to that pale skin and then red again. I can see some messy parts in the shadows... I am sure you are aware of them ;)
@Tommy: yours is the most "humanlike" but I like it too, hoping you solve the eye issue ^^'

I'm loving where everyone is going on their minis' Really great to see the variations already. Mine is yet to see paint, but I am happy with my really slow progress. I'll try and get a pic up o f him tonight once the baby has gone to bed.

Tomy if you get a little bigger pic of the face and the eyes that you have problems with we can give some suggestions, hard too see just now. and yes warpaint is always an alternative that might be very nice :)

Wow these are all looking fantastic. And you all seem to be moving ahead so quickly. All I have managed to do so far is one arm and I'm still not totally happy with that.
I did have a bit of an "oh shit" moment when I dropped him off the edge of the table but remarkably the only damage was snapping the tabs off his feet that were held in the clamp.View attachment 43789View attachment 43790

Nothing wrong with taking your time Andy: especially when the results are super clean like that arm.

Kretcher, I love your colour palette. He looks really menacing: like a night ogre or something (may have just made that up, but hopefully you know what I mean).

some more work on mine: Maenas, let me know if you think the scaly bit looks better now the muscle shading is back in. I'm not sure about it still.

Great progress bgcdazzler!
I like the tattoo and the skin tone... Not sure about the scales, there is missing some highlight + shadows, look too flat to me.

@Andy, it looks nice the arm, you can try to push the contrast a bit more!

@Kretcher, Quite dark version, I would push the hair to a lighter color to contrast with the darker skin tone...

On my side, too much work and just got sick, I simply cannot hold a brush. I will pick it up this week end again!

Boubi: I agree with you and Maenas about the scales - they're not right, and are annoying me. After trying to highlight them (and turning them to mush) I gave up and painted over them.

So hopefully third time lucky...

I decided that what was wrong was two things:

1. They are dark on light, making them look like tiles
2. They are in too random a pattern - they should be more organised, and thicker at the spine tapering off to smaller scales at the edge (like a snake)

with those two things in mind I redid them last night. Here's a few steps with shading at the end shown in the cold light of day. Are these better?

Step 1: spine first

Step 2: blocking in large near the centre, smaller at the edges

Step 3: finished, and taken over the tops of the arms and shoulder blades

Step 4: with shading

i also did a bit on the loincloth details: just a mix of copper and silver at the moment. You can also see some of the scales and how they blend over the shoulders here.

Very nice and clear step by step in the picutres, First I just saw the first one and WOW that is a bit dark :) then it all sorted itself.

Nice work.

Great looking work guys - I'm really enjoying everyone's personal interpretation of him. I'll pop back in and see how things are going.

I know: pretty nerve-wracking at first: especially if it went wrong. Luckily I'd had two previous attempts, so painting over his back is probably second nature to me now...

I'm having fun with my basing options at the moment, but in the meantime I've also done a bit of painting too. I've given the eye a little highlight - blimey, that was hard - and started preliminary work on the legs.

Also so tweaked the beard and the bling, the fingernails and smoothed some more of the skin.

A tiny update today (been inundated with Xmas parties, ugh). I've worked up some patterns and motifs on his bling. Sorry the photos are terrible.

Nice job bgzdazzler! The tattoo come out well and the skin spotty effect is really subtle and nice! But overall there is still a lack of contrast.

here my update, after a crazy week and being sick... I finally achieved to paint this afternoon:

Then I worked on the NMM, I tried to make it more complex, you cannot really see t on the picture but there are glazes of reddish purple and also some rusty glaze in the shadows. I still need to work on it!
