Kingdom Death study

I've recently been admiring some of the models available from Kingdom Death, particularly the Butcher:

The 'busy' nature of this characterful mini' struck me as making for an fun sculpt. Beneath all the detail, it's underlying simplicity makes it appear less daunting so I thought I'd give it a go.

I started by making some sketches:

This will probably be a slow burning project, just a little bit of fun when the mood takes me.
Still blocking out the basic shapes so far.

nothing is simple about kd sculpts imo, everything is just extra extra it floods the mini. not a fan, needless to say ;)
good sculpting though!

Are you allowed to do this? I would be worried about copyright infringments. Looks good though
huh, why? as long as there is no casting involved its no prob.

I won't be casting (or selling) the end result *. This is for educational purposes only!

* Unless of course Kingdom Death were to approach me, although there is more chance of a nude Katy Perry showing up on my doorstep...

I'd say let's share Katy but I wouldn't want your sloppy seconds, lol!

But you are okay with following Russell Brand? Ha! I wish I could not be funny and have greasy, shoulder-length hair and still make comedy films. Sad world.

Still very much a slow burning project. I only ever seem to work on this when I have a bit of left over putty. There is still much cutting and re-shaping to be done.

Not much progress I know but I do want to keep this thread alive!

Slow, slow, slow...

I will have access to a Limited Edition Butcher (hopefully) next week. Although I'm not copying it detail for detail ('cause I'm crap) it'll help to have an original for use as reference.

I can already tell that the head is a touch too big. Once he's off the cork I'll need to add the spikey bits to the feet. Once I've done a little underpinning this'll add a little more height anyway perhaps bringing him in scale (headwise) a touch...

Comparison with my newly received Butcher showed the proportions to be way off, so I've stretched him out...
