And the gods were nowhere to be found. In Homer\'s tale they were wrapped up in every event of the story. Plus I wanted to see Achilles fighting the river.

I saw El Cid with my Medieval Hispano-Arabic Poetry professor.
He pointed out that it was a pretty accurate depiction of the mentality of the time....the 1960s that is, the time when the movie was made.

I really enjoyed Kingdom of Heaven, but the Authenticity Freak that lives inside of me got bothered by a couple of things. One was that any blacksmith can make swords and the other was about \"never adopting a low guard.\" Full Iron Gate is a really powerful position to strike from.

I read El Cid a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. I think that he who gird his sword in a happy hour could pull in some cash at the box office.

I thought that Troy was okay. I think that they could have found a more Mediterranean looking Helen, however, instead of the blonde actress they chose.

That was on purpose, from the things I\'ve read, that Petersen didn\'t want \'Clash of the Titans\'....
I liked Troy. not the greatest, but I didn\'t think it was so bad either.

I don\'t think the Iliad as written is filmable - there\'s a lot of stuff going on, and to do it in an audience friendly manner (under 2.5 hours) would be an injustice....

I say War and Peace! (the Bondarchuk 1960s version).

8 hours of Soviet pompousness!! Took 7 years to film and cost in today\'s money values about half a BILLION dollars! It was funded by the Soviet state.

They used one-hundred and twenty thousand extras from the red army.

Unfortunately the movie feels someone dated and also the audio track is confusing at best (with constant switches between french, russian and english, sometimes dubbed, sometimes subtitled ??? ). It\'s well worth seing though just for the battle scenes and costumes.

More on topic I too love the director\'s cut of KoH (I even really liked the theatrical version). Stunning visuals, great battle scenes, Ed Norton is great as usual (an accomplishment, seing as how he wears a mask for the entire film), a lot of other really nice performances.

All in all a movie entirely to my taste

with you there Krom enjoyed it despite my aversion to Tom Cruise...

A lot of the directors cuts are awesome ....
I\'d say the suits have got it sorted though..Rake in the money at the cinema ..Then Rake it in on the DVD then as all the fuss dies down and the film reaches Bargain Bin status Bring out the directors version...Kerching$$$£££ Triple Whammy.

Then when the euphoria really truly dies down bring out the original screen presentation again...Mr Lucas take a bow...Must be the most rereleased re bought film set in history...

on the epic subject..I like \"The charge of the Light Brigade\".....(thing that wa sthe title of the film too)
and good old Zulu....

Interesting movie. Hate Cruise. Had an argument with my Japanese instructor. He thought it was great. I asked him why he would enjoy a film about a class of people who were the pampered, effete (particularly in the Edo period) oppressors of average Japanese people. He didn\'t know or care.
