Kraken mutant conversion

Hi folks!!!


Just put this fella up... he\'s one of the Kraken resins which I picked up from Jeremie B out at GD Spain... this is seriously one of the most beautifully and finely sculpted minis I have ever had the pleasure to paint.

This was one of those great times when the moment I saw the mini I knew just how I wanted to convert it and paint it up.

I had this idea of the huge-armed mutant being a genetically modified freak created in a military bio-tech lab who has broken free and is on the rampage...

I\'ve just moved over to Vallejo paints for a lot of my work and I\'m really happy with the skin tones and blending on this mini, I wanted to vary the skin tone to make the huge mutant arm look red and swolen, which I think has worked quite well.

The paper sheets on the base are aluminium foil painted to look like paper, the shackles and bent metal pieces are custom brass etch, as is the clipboard.

As always... constructive criticism gratefully received!

Love it. Tells the story straight away. Two things tho. The big pipe in the arm I would have thought the damages skin would look more purple and the blood is a little bright. Overall tho a great job. Did the vote thing

Wow - that\'s an absolute beauty of a beast - the skin is fabulous and I love the little touches like the barcode and the paperwork.

I love it, ( alrdy commented) But i think red tubs if their carrying blood should be a bit shinier, for instance kinda how you\'d paint red gems? might be wrong but they seem a bit flats thats all

super cool. the only thing i pick out is that the white balance doesn\'t seem to be right. gives me a bit of a headache looking at it!

Cheers all... first to freak, appologies... I think I know why it\'s giving you retina-thrash

My monitor is on it\'s way out, it\'s an old 21\" CRT that I\'ve had for my graphics PC for a good eight years or so... I think it\'s seriously dull in comparison with modern LCD monitors... as a result, what looks right on my monitor looks overly bright on other people\'s.

I must get a new monitor

And yes, I was a little concerned that the blood in the tubes was A: a bit bright, and B: gonna be hard to highlight...

I think I\'m gonna knock it back a bit... make it less vibrant. The tubes are highlighted with sharp, high contrast highlights on the top bends (hard to see in the pics) to make them look like shiny plastic... I was thinking about possibly gloss varnishing them also. Those pipes are only 0.3mm thick wire though so it\'s not easy to highlight them in any traditional sense!!
