Yeah, exactly. I know several established artists who've "made it" into the finer circles of contemporary art and it's an incredibly shallow world, really. It is bullshit like this that curators, gallerists and agents use to describe the works of the artists. The artists themselves quite often have a sort of semi-detached attitude towards it all. The ones I know feel slightly embarrassed about it all, but they still need the whole infrastructure of galleries and institutions to be able to support themselves and their families through their art.
In this case I'd be very surprised if the artist himself has written the text. I bet he hasn't made the website himself, at all. Of course, some artists do seem to like and enjoy the "game" of the finer art circles, but I think most artists simply want to make their art.
