Krull Builders...Wing assistance please

OK all you Krull builders, how in the seven living hells did you get the wings to stick on?

At first, I thought the fit was so good, that simple super glue would do the job, but no, snapped off when I tested, seems the contact surface area isn't as large as I thought (upon inspection, I was surprised to see only about 3mm square of contact)

That's OK I thought, good ol' two-part epoxy will do the trick.

Oh, wait, there is no way to prop the wings in place while the glue dries, so I guess it's 5 minute fast-setting Araldite time!

Some minutes later, my fingers straining, pointy parts of Krull armour gouging my fingertips, random horns lacerating my hands, wrists aching, I finally had the wings in place with a firm hold.

I propped them up against a vertical edge, supporting them, and left to dry overnight.

The next day I checked, and the joint had eased itself away from contact, leaving a nice plug of glue exposed..

Gah, so there goes a morning clearing glue residue (I hate doing that!).

I can't pin this joint, the wing sections are too thin.

What did you guys do (besides curse a lot)?

You pin them. If you think something is too thin, have you considered using staple pins?

Pin, I have pinned fingers in the past, I'm sure this ain't thinner... got a pic of the mini?

And here is another showing the two wings in place (little furry bumps on top), note that the parts of the wing are only 2mm thick at that point.

LOL, isn't that how you make snow? Oh, that's PVA glue and baking soda!

I've never tried that...! so the baking soda acts as a filler?
Awesome...!

A filler, and it also causes the cyanoacrylate (super glue) to cure almost instantly.

Besides the wing troubles, how is the model cast? And was it a pain to assemble?

I gave been circling that model for a looong time.

It is a thing of beauty, the entire body, excluding arms ram-horns, and small armour accessories is one object.
The detail is excellent, lots of little scars, marks, gashes.
He is expensive, but really worth getting.
I have a Forgeworld Bloodthirster, and they are much of a size, although the Bloodthirsters wings are larger, and much thicker.

super glue + baking soda.

i use super glue and then sprinkle bicarbonate on for stuff where the joint is not much visible and as a filler for larger joints. rock hard!

D'uuur. Drill for pins, mix slow curing Araldite apply to join, avoid pins carefully and use superglue on the pins.
If needed support with Lego while cures.

To all the; "PIN IT YOU FOOL" replies:
I can't pin that joint, there' no depth to stick the pin in, the wings attachment point are only 2mm thick, that's not enough for any decent purchase.

Actually, you can. I sent him a message on CMoN and asked him how he did the metallics on Krull. He was very nice, and replied fairly quickly. It's always worth a shot to ask, it can never hurt.

FFS, man up and ask him! Unless you are a woman. Then woman up and ask him! (Is that even a term? Woman up? Maybe for a transvestite? I don't know). Ask him! Throw in a blood sacrifice for good measure. Worst thing that can happen is he tells you to bugger off and posts here for all of us to read. So-So case, he doesn't answer. Best case he tells you what you need to know and you can get on with the build!

Yeah you can, he's a great fella.

Yeah, you can just drill strait through it and trim off the pin after it is all set up OR drill the pin holes at an angle to elongate the "depth and/or area of purchase." But at 2mm a couple pins should hold quite firm all on their own, even more so if there's a hell of a lot more depth on the lower side of the joint as there appears to be. The main thing is the physical pin blocking movement adding strength. Super glue the pins and 2 part epoxy the rest of the joint, should work a treat. Super glue holds fast while the epoxy fills and cures and solidifies the gap.
