I thought that Tony Blair had done a stirling job compared to Gordon at the moment, if the government perform any more sudden u-turns, they are going to end up squarly up their own a$$!:flame:

The government found a bit of the tax payers cash down the back of the sofa in Downing Street and could choose what to spend it on. There was quite a lot of money, one hundred billion pounds to be exact (£100,000,000,000). They were in the middle of a bloody and ongoing two front war where British soldiers regularly died in droves because they were under equipped and under funded. Hospitals were over crowded and dirty because staff didnt have time to whip some dettol arround resulting in superbugs killing thousands. School classrooms were also being packed to the rafters and standards were greatly lowered to make it seem as though the hordes of underachievers werent. Students got to college and university without a basic understanding of reading and writing. This money had a great influence on the nations future and could have bought many wonderful things:

Knife crime has reached epidemic proportions with 17 teenagers being stabbed to death in London alone this year. On the other hand, since 2000 8 people have been injured by people wielding \"Samurai swords\". Parliment is packed when they banned those. The knife crime debate? Less than 20 MPs could bother their arses to turn up.

I cannot say what I really think of the Labour government on this family friendly forum without being given the boot (and rightly so) so I\'ll tone it down some. They are a bunch of <bleep>ing useless traitors who arent fit to run a bath nevermind the United Kingdom.

We should wait until Parliment is full of MPs voting themselves more cash, storm it, drag them all out into the gutter and mow them down like the dogs they are. Install General Dannatt as Lord Protector until fair and democratic elections can be held where we vote for the candidate, not the party. None of this handing over power bullplop. Then the real work starts...

Yeah, the war is dumb and the money would be better used elsewhere, but that diatribe is bordering on media-induced hysteria.

London has a population of around 12 million people living together like termites in a mound! Yes knives are a problem, but it\'s one that\'s magnified by the media by about a million percent. As for the video about the protesters, that sort of thing has always happened, and has resulted in worse outcomes. Consider what your life would be like without The Fuzz....

I realise what I hated most about Britain since I left. There is an air of negativity that surrounds almost EVERYTHING. It will kill the country if it isn\'t sorted out. Forget politicians, it\'s the media that need to be kicked out.

Not really hysteria when kids younger than me are getting horrifically maimed because apparently the government doesnt have the cash to equip them with armour that works, yet in the same week they vote themselves a massive pay rise to cover their second homes. Well, I\'ll have to agree with you on that one....

Kids younger than you are getting \'maimed\' as you put it, because they made a career choice! Last I heard conscription wasn\'t a method of recruitment. And just a quick newsflash: body armour doesn\'t stop casualties.

Whether that be Soldiers, Police, Security guards - Body armour IS a vital resource and should be available to those that need it.

proof vests in some cities.

Body armour can stop death (dependant on angle and strength of the round obviously) however some of the injuries resulting from a bullet hit on body armour can be quite bad you only have to ask anybody that was a medic during the 2003 conflict what some of the injuries they were dealing with as a result of impact through body armour.

I know armour isn\'t 100% guaranteed, but if I had the choice between being shot unprotected by a 7.62mm round travelling at 1000-odd mph and wearing a jacket that, whilst maybe breaking a rib, has a chance of STOPPING that round, I know which one I\'d go for.

You talk to any of the guys out there or who have been out there and they will all tell you that they would rather have the body armour than not.

I think the problem comes when you have some penny pinching civil servant that says despite a person being in a war zone they are at a certain place and considered safe and therefore doesn\'t need to have it...

It in 6 month period the Brit base in Basra had 367 mortar attacks and they say that is a safe area???

It\'s a common misconception that Body Armour will Automatically safe lives by preventing a bullets penetration.
Impact damage can be as bad, in some cases worse, than penetrative damage.
A bullet may only transfer it\'s kinetic energy in a single impact transfer with minimised shockwaves to the body in a penetration.
However, a non-penetrative impact can have the same effect as a Blunt Force Trauma with Shockwaves affecting a wider area of the internal organs causing internal haemorrhage, slow loss of blood leading to loss of conciousness/life.

But It\'s not just body armour that our Forces are short on, the \"Armoured Land Rovers\" are a joke. Where are the Armoured APC Saladins of the 60\'s & 70\'s? Solid Protection for troops.

At a time when the crews need protection and the top gunner needs protection from snipers as well as impact explosions etc the UK government come out with these.
