It looks like a really well done gaming piece, but it\'s hard to tell anything further from those tiny pictures. You don\'t happen to have any bigger ones? :)

I\'ll sound like a jerk in this post, but....

Personally, I\'d give it a 5. It is streaky and messy. Thin the paints and brush on more coats, or buy an airbrush. Also, the bright silver is not a good color to paint the main part of your tank. The fine details are also pretty rough. For instance, take the front view as an example. The book isn\'t bad, but if you look at the skulls or the frag launchers, they are particularly messy. It also looks like you used the photo etched FW details without painting them.

I really don\'t mean to be harsh, but yes, it is pretty much a 5. Don\'t let it get you down, though. Take your time and keep at it and post your progress here. We will be happy to help.

Jerk lol

Pretty much hit the nail on that though, if you\'re gonna use silver to cover large areas, I\'d airbrush. The coverage for silver sucks

I wouldn\'t take ratings too seriously Koga ;) You\'re not the only one who\'s gotten down about it. Even really acomplished painters bitch about it lol

not to fret, that just leaves more room for improvement.

CRITIQUE:
The paint is streaky (GW tank brush?)

The blacklining is not consistant. Left side view is a good example of missing blacklining.

There is no shading or shadowing. Try some dark washes to give this thing some depth. That will also help with the blacklining.

Your lighting needs correction. The tint is too yellow.

All in all, I\'d give it a 5, maybe a 5.5 as you painted the inside.

HELP:
Get rid of that paintbrush and invest in a nice soft natural fiber brush. I would not shell out for a 1/4\" W&N S7, but you can find a good watercolor brush in the $10 range that will give lots less streaks.

Thin your paints and go for several layers instead of trying to do it all at once.

Use a bit of a dark wash to bring out the detail.

Those things should be worth about a point each bringing you up to a solid 6+.

Use halogen, color corrected (the blue ones) bulbs or natural daylight (throu a north window). Or, set your camera for incandesent bulbs.

EXTRA:
This is trying to look like a factory photo. There is no weathering anywhere. The doors should have grime around the hinges and handles, mud in the treads, etc. This is an art form unto itself. Usually found only in old military scale modelers.

This sounds like a lot of things to change, but each is a step way forward from your current painting level. Don\'t feel bad, we all started somewhere.

I\'d agree with JakeSh and airhead. You\'ve chosen to showcase a particularly difficult model to make look good. The large, open, flat areas are hard to make look smooth when painting with a brush. As mentioned before, the ways around that are spraying from a can, airbrush, or many many thin coats. All of these need a bit of experience and of that\'s gained over time.

As airhead mentioned (many times) as well, washes are your friend! Get to know them intimately.

I gave it a 5 as well as a gaming piece. Let\'s see what you\'ve got in the smaller, single model like a space marine.

WASH

I think its pretty good man!

Just to repeat, wash it! If your painting this to game - base it, wash it, dry brush it. I also think its better to dry brush metallic highlight over a color, to look like chipping paint on your vehicle.

Don\'t stress your score; it doesn\'t really mean much, besides for a gaming piece a 5 is a 10 :)

Well I\'m glad my post wasn\'t taken out of context.

A tip I\'ve picked up from armor modelers is using oil paint based washes instead of water based acrylic washes. It seriously works so much better. I think they recommend using artificial turpenoid to thin it down, but I\'ve been using artist\'s odorless thinner and it works great and hasn\'t attacked the paint. Remember to test it on a scrap of work, an old figure or something, to make sure it won\'t hurt your paint job. Visit this site. for some awesome historical galleries and tutorials. There is some really excellent stuff there.

Like everyone else said, keep on working on your skills. We all started somewhere in the lower pits. I even keep a few photos in my CMON gallery of some of my first works just to keep me grounded and to show some of the newer painters what a lot of practice and studying the articles on this site can do to your painting skills.

Another thing that I don\'t think anyone else mentioned: small photos and skewed white balance will drop your scores faster than a brick dropped in a pond.

If you can\'t see the models properly then you can\'t judge them fairly. Most people won\'t even give you a good look if the pics aren\'t clear.

Your Land Raider is a pretty decent gaming standard, but these other guys are already suggested ways of improving that. I think you\'ll come along nicely once you get to practise with some of their advice.

Overall the painting does need some improvement. What did you use as a base color for the silver? I\'ve often used black and it helps when you get a good basecoat of black and then do a couple coats of silver over top of it.

The lighting is the main thing that is throwing off the photo for my eyes. You probably need to change your bulbs for lighting to the Daylight bulbs either the incandescent or flourescent, and make sure you have at least three sources (overhead and at the sides, angled somewhat frontward) and also make sure you get photos that are in focus and have functions to correct how the camera reads the light.
