Large Samurai Bow

Anyone know where I could find a large samurai bow?

This is for a tau battlesuit, so the bow should measure around 60-70mm from end to end.

Specific toys in the right scale or a tutorial on how to get the shape correct would also work.

Thanks,

You could give it a more Eastern feel by making the lower arm shorter - an adaptation for shooting while mounted, I believe.

tha\'s right... also cross banded stitching seems to be a recurring theme.. Damn it all I had some great pics somewhere from the royal armouries museum near here....will see if I can find em although Google image search will turn some up I\'m sure...

as for making it there are several ways a man of your talnts could approach...

pro sculpt or milliput over a brass armature get the general curve with the armature build up with the putty sand down to shape and add details.. or a couple of pieces of plasticard cut to the general shapeglued together and filed to shape....

as for components my knowledge is mainly limited to GW as that is what I have always collected and componentsare generally easier to find...

maybe have a look at chariot hafts ....ne high elf plastic ones or maybe the high elf or dark elf bolt throwers maybe a starting point..... depends on the size your going for in proportion to the model If memory serves unless mounted the samurai Bow is a long bugger..........

Depending on what you have, might also try shaping down a model car sprue, then gently melting it into shape. Probably won\'t work, but felt I should add something.

Ah, wow, thanks for the great responses. :)

The type of bow I\'m looking to create is the first one on the left in Yetie\'s pic, called a yumi. One distinct quality is that it\'s longer on the top half (akin to a longbow) and shorter on the bottom (like a horseman\'s bow).

Thus far, my three attempts at scratchbuilding have failed pretty badly. I\'m good at converting, but when it comes to precise shapes such as the curves in a bow, I\'m apparently pretty awful. I\'ve tried plastic (twice) and brass rod.

Hadn\'t tried gluing layers of plasticard together yet, good idea. But I think the golden idea is the chariot haft one -- Just looked at a spare Tomb Kings chariot, and I think I can make it work.

Thanks, I think you guys have set me off in the right direction now. :D

I meant to post this this morning but seeing the update it reminded me.

It\'s a bit stylised but would this work? As you are mounting it on a battlesuit it could be made to look slighly futuristic yet traditional by adding a couple of Tau symbols and carving some plate joins into it.

It\'s not quite what I had in mind, but the more I look at that bit, the more I think it\'ll work better than my original idea. Making it more futuristic would be easy enough as you say. Definitely going to switch gears and use this bit instead, good idea.

Thanks!
