I would bring the highlights on the swords NMM all the way up to white at the highest points. At the moment it looks a little like stone. I would give the golds a wash of brown/black to give them a bit more defination and give more contrast between the darkest and lightest parts.
The freehand is looking good, a bit more tidying up and defination in parts would help but we are looking at this model 250% its normal size, and they probably wouldnt be a worry when looked at by eye in real life.
I would leave whites in the eyes even if it isn\'t annotomically correct, it looks better (IMO) at this scale.

the only thing is that there is no nmm on the sword xD... but yeas, a wash could be a good idea :D, I think that I will try to take a pic that shows it real size :p

Another update T.T can\'t seem to keep up :D

Anyway, great work again Larre! The gold looks really good but I would agree with matty that the sword needs more highlight (e.g. mithril silver). The chalice icon on the cloak is a very good attempt but it needs some neatening up for comp standard. The highlights need to be more smoothly blended, you can still have contratst but take it down a notch. Also the black lining near the base of the goblet is really thick compare to the rest of it - I think you need to fix that. Nice work on the icon on the chest ;)

Another area not quite right - on the 2nd pic the creases on the barding are highlighted but they are too high in contrast also - you need to put an intermediate tone first, slightly diluted to allow the base colour through, and then the final highlight (also slightly watered down) should be applied in a thinner line than the intermediate tone - this builds up the highlight rather than an all out one. With your reds the highlighting and blending is very good - the blue areas you need to work on a bit. Perhaps give the edges a slight glaze of darker blue to bring down the highlight?

Another suggestion - maybe add flakes of mud to the bottom of the barding and on his white cloak? I think it would look good.

Looking forward to more progress from you! ;)

Cheers,
Tom

coments and critiqye is wellcome, I\'m a bit curious what you think about the metallics :)

I like the golds! Not as fond of the silvers (I agree about the sword though.. it\'s nice :)). Have you tried using ordinary paint for shading metals? I generally go BG metal, shade with chaosblack, redo with BG metal and mix in mithrilsilver until I\'m satisified with the contrast. I often introduce additional hues depending on how I want the metal to look.. like browns, blues and greens which I glaze onto the metals.

I think you have a slight problem with the blue and swirly part of the emblem not being sepparate from the blue colour of the rest for the mini. Are you planning on painting the borders in another colour?

I use mithril+chaos black for shading the metal. then I tried to paint different metals. I used a blue galze on the sword and brown on the rest of the metal, I felt that the sword should have a bit of a cleaner feeling then the rest of the armor :p

I\'m not planning to paint the borders in a different colour :p

The trick is to never mix with metal paint.. in that way you can control the light more. :)

I think maybe the border (or the frame) might be a thing that makes the mini \"pop\" more. Try to paint a border in photoshop or something and see what you think.

Another update T.T ;)

Anyway, its looking great! Just a few pointers;

Firstly, I think the chainmail under the barding is too solid - there is no distinction between the rings and the spaces. Try going over it with a wash of black to bring the shininess down and darken the crevices. Secondly you have a left a mold line down the front left leg (3rd pic down) ;) . Thirdly, the nmm silver on the goblet (on the banner) looks good, but the gold isn\'t to the same standard. The contrast is bit too high - you need to add some more intermediate tones in between. You can still have contrast to make it \'pop\' but you need to blend it more otherwise it won\'t look like gold. Also I think the gold would benefit from a slight almost white highlight on the bery edges to show it is metallic.

About your metallics - I think they are both really good, gold and silver. The armour gives a battleworn knight feel IMO. Just fix the chainmail barding and it will be complete then!;)

Btw is it me or does the sword look like its a bit wonky in the 3rd pic down? ???

Great work, I\'m sure it won\'t be long before the next update!

Cheers,
Tom

another update... not as big this time though :)

battlestandard027.jpg

if it\'s hard to understand for anyone... the teal smoke in the corner is smoke from 2 demonic eyes. I wanted to make an demonic feeling over it, but not 5 demons pressed into a corner, I felt that I haven\'t really got the skills to do that ;P

but this is what I have so far.. hope you like it :D

I feel that the skull looks a little \'un-brettonian\'.I think the banner looked good before.it looks a little chaosy now.

good work on everything else though!!

the purpose was for the banner to represent heaven and hell... order and chaos. that is why I painted a skull... I also thought that it needed a skull so that you see where it come from :p
