Last Minute Competition Painting

Ok. So originally having planned three entries for the Golden Goblin I have finished none. In fact I have pretty much only started painting my entry (it has been converted for some time now...). The competition is tomorow, deadline for entries is 11:00am. It is 8:30pm now. I\'ll try to post pics ever hour or so. I\'m hoping that I can get lots of feedback from all you guys so I can do the best I can in little time. Ok. So here\'s what I\'ve got.

Ok so the face looks TERRIBLE in that picture (it is better in real life), but is the weakest point right now. I dont plan on touching it up untill I get everything else done. Ok, I\'d love suggestions, tips, comments, and even just some support. Thanks for looking.

I think the face looks fine? :) The thing bugging me most is the gold especially the little banner on top.. it\'s a focal point to the mini.

I would shade it down a little more (black/brown ink), then apply another highlight... give it some contrast!

Good look!

Pretty much all the gold metallics on the psychic hood and shoulder pads are basecoats right now, they will definately get shaded down later (and dullcote will kill them and I\'ll reapply a highlight or two...)
More pictures in a bit, didnt get as much done as I would have liked...

*edit* New pic, ok now it may not look like much, i\'ve done alot of the details on the head that are covered by the hood, and decided to do some quick touch ups to the face (I know I know I said I wouldnt..), and I painted that little skull. Ok. Comments, suggestions etc etc.

First I just paint the interior field of the shoulder pad, then I\'ll give it a border wash/ink. After thats dry I\'ll do the edges, If I go a little over I\'ll take some pure black ink on a fine detail brush (keeping it at a fine point) and just drag it through the crevice/angle formed by the edge and interior. I\'ll use that method to clean up lines when ever I get a little messy, but I always try to leave the black from the basecoat/primer as it\'s easier.

*edit* Are you going to be entering Zaphod?

I\'m not sure I\'ll finish him tonight... I\'ll paint till 12:30/1:00 but then I need to sleep. Progress is a little slow and I\'m a little too ambitious for my own good with this one.

I\'ll probably see you there tomorrow as well. I probably won\'t have my entry done though, I think I felt my spine compress today when I was pushing my stuck car out of the snow :D

A bit of a shame, I was really digging the model, but my back can be very tempermental at the best of times. This might actually be the first time I was doing something remotely strenuous on my back when I injured it... my famous example was when I wrecked my back when a friend of mine was teaching me a dance she learned in the University Dance Club :D

If I\'m anything less than 5\'10\" tomorrow then someone should call the hospital for me because I\'m too scared :p

Ok. Really got into a groove last night and got a lot done. Painted till about 2:00am at which point my hands were shaking so bad I had to stop. I\'m really pleased with how it looks so far, and hopefully I\'ll manage to get it done. It\'s 7:30 now.

All thats left now are the feet, the book on the shoulderpad,the left arm, the hands and weapons. If I have enough time I might do some free hand on the tabard, and for sure the Blood Raven icon on the left shoulder pad.

@Jericho: Sorry to hear about your back and your entry (well then again I can\'t say I\'m not relieved in that I don\'t have to go up against you...).

Yes I am entering my first ever live competition!!!

I finished my last entry, Asurman at abotu 10:00 last night. I want to do so much more, but time is behind me for the moment...

Your entry is looking top! Hope you make it!

its looking good so far.. the only thing i dontlike right now is the cloth & seal.. I would maybe make the cloth yellow like an ode to the old style theUM were painted.. besides that everything is looking good.. best of luck

Well, a little update. I got him entered (unfinished), didnt place for obvious reasons.

@WingZ: He\'s a Blood Raven not an UM, and if I had more time the cloth tabbard would have had freehand and script work.

Zaphod walked away with no less than two \"trophies\". Congrats and fantastic work. It was great meeting Zaphod, Jericho and Flashlight warrior. Till next time. Maybe I\'ll actually have my entry ready lol.
