Lathiem - Salute entry

Hi folks!

Finally got back from Salute today and thought I\'d pop my fantasy single entry up, which I\'ve been tinkering away on the last few weeks...

http://www.coolminiornot.com/188226

This is one of Enigma\'s dribble-worthy \'Lathiem\' barbarians... when I got him and took him out of his pack and got him undercoated so I could really see the sculpt properly I had this \"Oh my god\" moment where I almost felt I didn\'t want to paint him because I didn\'t think I could do the sculpt justice :)

Anyway... as it says on the link, I was told after the comp that he was a close third behind the lovely, lovely dwarf (also Enigma :) and a pant-wettingly beautiful 54mm gladiator.... I was absolutely chuffed to bits to even make top ten given the standard of the comp...

Anyway, enough waffling... as always, comments and constructive criticism appreciated... yadda yadda :)

Cheers all

@Vincenti - You cheeky git :)

No, seriously... the standard was SO high, so many lovely, lovely minis... it really WAS GD standard and then some... wish I\'d taken my camera with me now :-(

Hopefully, given the interest this year, they may up the awards to top three in each category next year... that\'d be nice.

Really great event... oh, and the Freebooter stand with all their painted examples... OMG, makes you weep :)

Anyway... thanks for the comments!

I did actually look at that and wonder whose it was. Really nicely painted and while there\'s no way I could really argue against the stunning single fantasy winning mini, I\'d say yours gave it a close run to the line! I really like it.

As you say, the over all quality was amazing but this and your \"subject 42\" minis were certainly contributing!

And yes, the Freebooter stand is a truly depressing place to visit - The Derek Schubert painted elves & Imperial Enchantress and the Marike Reimer painted Dixie Dynamite & Undead Lady blew me away.

I have to totally disagree with you Joe, Freebooters stand is always inspiring to me.
Without something like those examples to give me an incentive to improve then I\'d probably be stuck along with so many in the Drybrush, ink wash and hope for the best category.

Ben; your Latheim is a really great piece. If that was only a runner up then the winners musty have been really \"pushing the evelope\"

Hey now, that\'s my category LOL

I know what you mean though, it is inspirational but, and I speak only for myself here, even if I did nothing but paint minis for the next decade, I would still not have that artistic flair and innate ability to produce art. The best I can do is \"well painted minis\" and that\'s the depressing bit.

But i\'m still a happy person and very skilled at going off topic :innocent:
