A friend of mine is trying to get me a job at a local gaming shop, teaching beginners mini-painting...

I\'d be more inclined to accept if I could break the 7 plateau... (instead of my usual 5-6\'s) but still, I\'ll take some of my better pieces in to show them, and see what happens.

At least I know the basic principles...

No, I want you to vote for my minis as you think they deserve. My progress on those few I\'ve posted is visible, I think. And I intend to keep improving, too.

Refreshing. Honest what a rare comodity. I will look over your minis and leave you some comment (not that Im an expert but I did crack a couple of 7\'s) Good luck.

My comment above was to convince you to accept the job, if all it takes is for you to get a 7.

Oh, I\'m willing to take the job if they\'re willing to hire me.

After all, teaching is the best way to learn. But I also have to admit, and I do, very readily, that there\'s a lot more people with better qualifications, skill-wise.

Can I actually teach someone something?
I dunno. I was an OK little league coach, but that\'s not really related.

Naukhel, if the hobby shop does not pay you to teach, check out either the GW\'s outrider program or Reaper\'s Black Lightning program (depending on your interests and the stores merchandise). Both are demo teams that will pay you in company points to teach painting or play their games. Points = gift certificates to be redeemed in lead and paint.

I\'ve been teaching painting thanks to Reaper - and Cerridwyn - for over a year now. It has improved my painting and let me bring some more people into the hobby.

You will still need a FLGS to work from (base) and to be 18. If the employee thing does not work out, then see if they will provide you space (a table and chairs) once a week (2-4 hours) for you to teach anyway. Then contact the program of your choice and enroll.

I had something similar happen yesterday...was ordering something from a novelty/gift/magic shop and was looking at somepewter figurines that they had on clearance. I mentioned to the owner that I like painting stuff like that and that I\'m involved with a group that sends miniatures all over the world and raises money with our painted figures. The guy asked me if I wanted to display my stuff around Christmas time, and he would take a percentage off the top... He offered me an entire display case! I doubt I\'ve painted enough stuff in a lifetime to fill one shelf. lol

I politely declined, explainig that most of what I\'m currently working on has been promised to charities. The real reason is, like Naukel, I haven\'t broken the 7 barrier! I hate to have my stuff represent our community... thats just scarey. ;)

BTW - If anyone has the time, I have a couple of pieces that need just a couple more votes. You can click on the link in my sig... I\'m hoping to be in the top 2000 very soon... :D

OK, both of you. Breaking a 7 is great. But I have found that a solid 6 painter is better than 90% of the stuff you find in your local FLGS that is \"pro-painted\"

My painting has done the most improvement since I have actually had to show others what it takes to paint eyes and layer skin.

Yup, I think Kevin is right.

On this site, with thousands of other seasoned painters to compare yourself with, a 6-7 is a very solid job.

In the real world, where most people have never even heard painting miniatures, that 6-7 can make peoples jaws drop. Especially when those people pick up a brush and actually give it a try.

My neighbor lady has just become a school teacher and has to come up with a cirriculum of things the kids may have never tried. She has mentioned that I should give a painting class with her. To those kids, I WOULD be the expert....

Vike - try it - you\'ll like it. I take my airbrushes in to the middle school art department one day each semister. we have a blast (bad pun)

Very true. I was actually impressed with the guy at my FLGS the other week, he was working on a bunch of ogres and they looked to all be ~5.5-6. For a whole unit that ain\'t bad. Of course a display painter might have a higher standard but lower output... Just the fact that I have a CMON gallery seemed to impress the other guy who works there, he said this site was \"intimidating\" :D

Ok. So I\'m going over to the place on thursday to talk to the owners.

If we get along, then I\'ll make another trip with some minis to demo my so-called talents, and see what comes from there.

That\'s fabulous, airhead. Now all I need is money to buy the stuff to make it, and space to set it up.

And space is actually the greater concern, right now. Bachelor sized apartment. Me and my wife living within. There is no space. Even with it folding up as it does.

@Naukal. I travel for work and am away for 2 weeks at a time. All my painting and modelling stuff fits into a suit case (Well not all just the stuff Im working on) All you need is an area the size of your lap and a lamp to do painting. Where theres a will theres a way.
