Layering question

How long do you all let your layers dry between applications of paint. What is the time span between highlights for example? Thanks.

To be honest it really depends on what additives you add to your thinning solution - and also on some of the colours. For some reason I find greens stay wet slightly longer than others (although that could just be me).

I sometimes use a hairdryer on a low setting to dry my layers quickly as I use retarder in my solution just to make sure, as I have often ruined a paint job as I\'ve pulled up previous layers

a majority of the time, I was just using distilled water. I do have Liquitex Flow improver and slow-dri solution, but was told they weren\'t really needed for the layering technique.

5-10 minutes is usually more than enough for me. I paint quite thin though and pretty much need to use a retarder in the mix so that the paint doesnt dry 5 seconds after I take my first swipe across the mini. Typically only have 2-3 mins before the paint looks dry. But I think I suffer from over thinning addiction. Sometimes black takes 2 coats to cover

Depends on the paint layers. Sometimes for me, when I\'m glazing or something, the paint pretty much dries not to long after hitting the mini, even with retarder. When putting a good opaque basecoat down, I usually have to allow a lot more time for the paint to dry.

Haven\'t really had too much problems putting brush strokes through previous paint layers, but it probably has a lot to do with where you are and what you\'re using.

latex paints go through a very tender stage where you try to add a layer and end up removing a layer instead. I usually just have 2 or 3 minis working, by the time I get back around, the first one is dry.
