Hiya,

Got this cool limited edition from Bignastyshark in the Mini Exchange #10, and have decided to paint him up for a local competition in January, may also be my (first ever) entry into this months Golden Toadstool contestdepending on what else gets done in the timeframe!

Please excuse the quality of the photo\'s was round parents so not the best light!

Have tried to avoid the typical Ultramarine flavour, and started with regal blue highlighted with Enchanted blue mixes then bleached bone added.

First ever attempt at stubble and shaved head look, And the freehand on the banner is only my second ever go at NMM.

I am liking this so far but a fresh set of eyes is always good. Does anything look odd or need fixing? All comments and critique welcome!!!

Cheers, Dave

Hi OrkyDave - I posted a quick comment on the ME10 thread. I\'m very impressed with the realism you\'ve achieved with the head - skintone, stubble and the whole expression is incredible. The blues work really well too, nicely done. My only thoughts on improvement are regarding the brass/gold metallics as they seem a bit too glaring? for the rest of the model. Mind you, I\'m not really into SMs so dopn\'t listen to me ;)

Looking really good, like the way the alternative blue is turning out, I\'d say you need to go for some black or very dark blue in the clenched fists for more definition, heads looking good, and the NMM on the banner looks great, especially as it\'s only your second effort, but the U looks untidy and spoils it abit.
Big Nasty Shark is a generous man... good job all round, waiting for next pic..

Thanks for the comments so far guys,
Something was bugging me with the claws so thanks for pointing that out Ogrebane, will fix this!

Agree that certain parts could use blacklining too, especially the claws, Cheers Hubbabubba!

I also agree about the Ultramarine insignia on the banner, despite thinning paints, this appears to be a little bit \'texturey IRL so I am thinking would be virtually impossible to re do without a strip:(

I followed a tutorial under the articles section for the 5 O\' Clock shadow, called \'Unshaved beard effect\' Which explains it better than I could!!!

Sorry for the poor pictures, had to get some shots up today for the Golden toadstool competition and the best I could do without the camera and set up I am used to. Will get him in my Gallery when I get better pics. any thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Cheers!

Nice OrkyDave!

I love your gold metallics, especially on the Ultramarine symbol on his chest. The highlighting on the blue is really good and not too OTT like some others you see, and the freehand on the banner is good, but one of the imperial aquila heads seems lower than the other, however the nmm on the banner is pulled off really well.

I like the flesh, very realistic and the scar looks good. I love the way you have added a slight stubble - tres cool!

Cheers,
Tom

Cheers orkboy (cool username too BTW!)

I agree with the banner and it bugs me everytime I see it now! I found this difficult to do initially due to the scrolls blocking the banner and also it has a \'ridge\' moulded on where it is bending round the bannerpole.

Freehand and NMM are both very new to me so I think I was trying too hard, if that makes sense, that I overlooked the symetery of it.

Oh well, just have to take it on the chin and learn from it! :(
