Lead/Plomb...What do you do to avoid problems?

My fiancé keep telling me I\'m going to have health problems with lead... Do you wear protections to work when cleaning your figs?
This has nothing to do with the final result but I think that it\'s important that painters, to do good figs, stay in life and don\'t become mad (not too much...)

Sensible precautions...

Most modern figures don\'t contain lead anymore, but I understand that Rackham ones do. All older figures are normally high in lead.
Simple, obvious precautions are needed. The lead wont hurt you unless it gets inside you, so:

Don\'t eat minis:D

When filing, drilling etc clear up swarf. I use a little re-chargeable vacuum cleaner.
I will also wash my hands after as well. Watch carefully where the filings drop - don\'t let them drop onto the carpet if you have pets. Try to keep them in one place and clear them up afterwards.

That\'s about it really...If you are sensible less lead will enter your body than we used to breathe in from car fumes before leaded petrol was banned
:D

You\'re right!

I won\'t eat minis anymore, that\'s better.lol
So I guess Lotr Figs are not in lead, that\'s a good point, thanks.
But, that\'s just a precaution, I\'ll try to clean a lot of figs before being pregnant, I think... Or my baby would be fig-addicted before birth...:)

To be honest this whole \'are lead figures safe?\' issue isn\'t really something to worry about! As has been said, don\'t eat the stuff and everything\'s hunky dory!

If it were so unsafe then there\'d be a ban on using lead wouldn\'t there?! Yet loads of companies still use the stuff so it obviously isn\'t a problem. Just a matter of common sense really when it comes to handling figures that contain lead.

Three cheers for lead... hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!

:D

On the topic of health issues, how likely is it that painting minis regularly is going to force you to wear glasses? My mum always worries about this. I wouldnt mind too much, everyone tells me I look good in glasses.

I occasionally wear glasses when I am cleaning my models. My friend got a tip of an ex-acto blade in his eye and I\'ve worn them since he told me about it.

That\'s happened to a lot of people i know, I once got a bit of sprue in my eye, but that isn\'t as bad. I should really wear something to protect them, as they\'re really important to ne for all the things I do. Then again, I could have an eye patch and be all pirate style. Yarrrrr

Goggles....

Yup, I\'ve had things \'ping\' off whilst cutting them and it scares the hell out of me each time it happens - it\'s always a near miss. Better get some gogs.....

As for lead being unhealthy - I\'ve been eating it for years and there\'s nothing wrong with me......:duh: :|~

But then you won\'t see depth and your highlights will be crap(ier). Pirates are cool, but they are terrible at painting. \"Did you hear about that new pirate move?\"-me
\"No\"-my friend
\"O, probably because its rated arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!\"-me again
