Legio Ursus - Emperors Champion

I\'ve finally completed my Emperors Champion. This is a concept model for my new chapter. They are called Legio Ursus right now (Ursus = bear in latin). Any other ideas? :)

I tried out a number of techniques on this one, like NMM and paint on scratches. I\'m pretty satisfied with how it came out.

wowzers...

The NMM on the little belly plate and the necklace look wonderful. It looks very much like real steel.

I like the overall darker color scheme, but it seems if the tabard (or whatever that cloth thing is) should be a more contrasting color to that of the armor.

Other than that minor little thing, I\'d say you have a pretty fantastic looking chapter started!

Thanks :D

The tabard will be brighter more like bleached bone in the future... it really was supposed to be. But somewhere on the way.. ;)

I wont do my army in NMM, but painting NMM Is a really good practise for real metals also.

With results like you\'ve had here, I\'m a little surprised. It would take a ton more time, though, I suspect....

Yes.. it takes time to make smooth transitions and with NMM they have to be ultra-smooth. :) Another thing is that NMM doesn\'t really look like metals up close IRL. + that I love to weather real metallics..! :D

I will however continue to experiment with NMM on display pieces and minis that require a very smooth metal finish like elves.

I really like that colour scheme and the concept.
Are you going to do Characters with lightening Claws in bone colours. Also why not have Terminators as Grizzley Bears with Grey sections on their helmets.

Great ideas, all of them! and I must give my characters lighting claws.. that\'s for sure! :D

BTW. are the pictures very dark? It takes a while for the contrast of my screen to work up.. and before it has they seem dark. My dark reaper pictures looked dark on my girlfriends screen.. but I quickly adjusted the contrast on the screen to solve the problem.

Yeah, you could convert Space Wolves pretty easily into a bear themed army. i think it\'d look awesome!

Is this a much better pic? When I draw up the levels some noise starts to appear. I don\'t really know how to deal with this problem as the pictures seems to have okay contrast when I look at them. :(

Well.. I\'ve thought about space wolves.. but I\'m not sure that it is that kind of look I want.. not a lot of fur and stuff. It\'s more about claws and sharp stuff.. with the strength of a bear paw.. :) And this is a more Inquisitor friendly chapter (and vice versa)... no mutations or 13th company. But yes.. spacewolves has been in my mind, but I don\'t know to which extent I will be inspired by them..

wow the armor and the nmm look awesome!
the freehand on the cloth look great, cant see anything i dont like.
the scratches are truely kick-as* and ... ah whatever, the whole mini is just marvelous! only thing i would change is the angle of the picture so you have a better view of the sword or at least add another pic showing the sword in all its beauty, i mean its the best sword ever produced by gw or maybe any company.
really really cool work, incredible how fast people improve here

Oh thanks! :D I have a view of the sword in my gallery..

I\'m thinking of removing the pics I have posted and uploading new brighter ones... if I can manage with my poor lighting.

Well, guess what.. I totally overlooked the fact that I had \"multi\" instead of \"spot\" light reader. So the camera compensated for my light background, making the figure dark. I went into full Manual mode and.. well the pics are alot brighter. doh! lol

The Knee Pads!
The Belly Plate!

Thats the most realistc NMM I\'ve seen yet. Also the free hand on the cape looks nice. I can\'t help but think that the tabard needs to be a bit more distinctive compared to the main armour though. Perhaps the same colour as the cape or a cream colour?

oh..That part about the NMM almost made me blush. Yeah.. I\'ll do it in a cream colour in the future.

I feel guilty now......I gave it an 8! I did say it was nearly a 9,meaning 8.8,8.9 but now the scales have fallen from my eyes!It is a definite 9:D:D:D People are right about the scratches and NMM,it\'s a proper high standard for a first go! I also love the tabard on the front in brown,it keeps the mini looking coherent lollol Nice one Don one-Solo mafia

I give it a solid 9. Love the colors on it, though as it has already been said, a contrasting color for the tabard would set it off nicely, but the new brighter pic really makes this pop for me and got a \'wow\' out of me.

Lovely work. Stuff like this actually makes me enjoy the Space Marines instead of giving them a solid \'eh\'.
