Okay, I don\'t need help with the actual Language (Yet.. next semester I either take it or German) but here\'s how it is: Me and my father have always been interested in the family geneology. We can trace back to around 1600 when we left England, including the famous Composer Timothy Swan and the Infamous Cp. William Swan, the pirate. BUT, we have almost no information on my Grandmother who came from France (and met my Grandpa during the war). All I know is her full name was Marcella Joyce Gewjesky, and her father (my great-grandfather) was Polish, and her mother\'s maidern name was Veenhus..

I\'m not even sure if those are the exact spellings but if any of you Frenchmen can go to a Library or such and look this up, I\'d really appriciate it.. I\'ll see if I can get more information later on. Like I say, this is just what I know, it\'s on paper somewhere but it\'s so old I dare not risk breaking it looking for it..

But even without research, is this a common name?
Is it associated with a particular region?
I am your long lost cousin, what? :p

Gewjesky doesn\'t seem french to me, or else it\'s in the northern part. Maybe her familly was from eastern europe. Do you know at least from which region she was? It would ease the search. Most archives are still local. And a lot of them where destroyed during the french revolution because the church was in charge of them. So most of us can only search back 200 years or so.

Don\'t think I can help you, I wouldn\'t even know were to start looking.
But I can tell you one thing... take french next semster :innocent:;)

Gewjesky sounds Polish to me, and Veenhus sounds Dutch. Eh, that wasn\'t of much help...

She was French/Polish, her father was polish, hence the last name.. I just spelled them phonetically, So maybe it\'s Veneuex? I have no idea about region, that\'s what would help the most.. And since she got married in the 50\'s, I\'m only looking in a timespan on about 100 years, so the revolution wouldn\'t affect it too much..
