Less than an 8!???

Yes Ive seen her work and she can indeed paint, but this piece doesn\'t do it for me.. it looks to \"candy\" like.. don\'t know how else to describe it. That and Im not liking the base work at all.

It doesn\'t do anything for me, and I don\'t like the rose. I\'d give it a 7. Remember we are rating the piece not the artist - it is Coolminiornot. Generally I think I would give 9+ to her work, but this isn\'t the best example.

I\'d say mid 7 at best. What brings it above an 8? There are some far nicer bits in her gallery.

And thats half the trouble, it\'s not \'Doyoulikethisminiornot\' it\'s Coolminiornot! So stop rating the \'canvas\' and rate the work that\'s on it!
So again I say LOOK at the piece. I mean really look.
In the top pic, look at the quality of the the brushwork, NO brushmarks, NO grainyness, the blending is excellent.
See how the sprites glow lights up the wood. In the lower pic can\'t you see the menace in her face......... :flame:
So if you are gonna give a 7, give it because it\'s only worth a 7. Not because you dont like the mini..........

somewhere between 7-8 while some of her other works seem to be somewhere in lines of an 8-9 or even a 10 depending on taste, so I got to agree with the others actually. The problem with this piece is that the parts don\'t form an unity. the brown seems underworked at places, not sure the piece got enough definition, especially the grey. The lighteffect is too harsh and the base distracts a bit. But the greys are beautiful and the face has got a nice expression.

Its nice, but its not great. I think what is hurting this is it is not a cool mini. The paintjob warrents a 8-8.5, but the mini itself is holding it down. I also think that the roses are a little out of place. I like the face and the sprites. The face may be the best part on this mini.
Also you got to remember that each person has different likes and dislikes.

mick, don\'t sweat about it. Personal opinion is something that you can\'t govern. Let people have their votes! It\'s a bog-standard 8 to me...personally speaking

7.5, but I\'d vote 7.
Not enough contrast, not smooth enough, crud basing and generally doesn\'t stand out from the crowd.

There\'s plenty of some reasonable blending in it, even a bit of OSL, but the colour choices are bland. Large areas of beige, large areas of brown, large areas of blue, in fact, the most visually attractive thing about it is the red on the base.
Tough one, really good technique but lacklustre execution. I think it\'s well rated.

If it had graniness and brushmarks, it would be a 6
I can\'t see all the blending people are speaking of either, apart from the slight blue to brown blend. I don\'t really like the colour combination on this piece personally.

7ish for me too. The colour scheme doesn\'t really do much for me and the way it\'s highlighted I\'m not that fond of, although it looks nicely done.
The photos also have a bit of an \'artificial\' air to them from tweaking and/or resizing and/or compression which I really don\'t like.

Yes I can see how someone might give it a 7. Sometimes you can be so good at something you get a lower score becuse your technique is so good it gets taken for granted.
To the casual eye it looks like there is only a simple light color hightlighting with the occasional use of dark ink. The effect is mst obvious with the dark green / light green hair. Not obvious at first glance is that the light green parts has considerable amount of blending. The greys are also well blended ... not obvious at first glance.
A mini is a lot like a resume. Sure a real Golden Demon judge is going to spend some time looking at a mini, but the average person here is going to take a quick glance. If they like what they see they will look more closely. Unfortauntely, for all practical purposes, this mini is just a girl / tree.
I gave her an 8. But I\'m a Secular Franciscan. Francis loved to hug trees. I love trees that are cute enough to hug.
