To the casual eye it looks like there is only a simple light color hightlighting with the occasional use of dark ink.

Hmmm, you are suggesting that we haven\'t looked properly?:) I don\'t think this is the case.

Got a 7 from me and I felt that was a touch generous. I couldn\'t bring myself to vote 6 becuase its better than that but no way an 8.
Its not a cool sculpt IMHO and to get an 8 it has to be painted better than this one.
No disrespect to anyone involved in painting or sculpting the figure of course.

For me, the red on the base pretty much took this from a 8-8.5 to a 7. The composition is pretty much destroyed by that move really, it makes it look like a sprig of holly more than a miniature, nice for christmas, not nice on a mini

I gave 8. I was going to go under - frankly don\'t like the sprite-light on top - not convincing - and the base is a mess.
But the eyes/face pushed it back up for me.

Sorry, one for the record, I quite like the mini itself (in the metal so to speak). It is the choice of colours and the execution I don\'t like, it just didn\'t knock my socks off. I like to think I rate pieces on their merits, and I hope people do the same for me.

I would never suggest such a thing. \"We\" always give a mini the proper consieration it deserves. But not everyone who votes are us. And like a resume, if something doesn\'t immediately attract some people\'s attention some people may not give it a second look.

On the other hand, speaking for myself, I can countthe number of times I have looked at a mini and thought more or less, \"Well that\'s a nice ... wait a minute ... this is a mini not a photograph (well it\'s a photograph of a mini) ... that\'s definitely fatastic blending.\" Suddenly a score that first glance was telling me a 7 becomes a 9 because the mini did the job so well that I stoped treating it as a mini for a moment and just assumed it was the real thing. (I mean how many people notice the effects of shading when looking at the person you are talking to in a typical conversation?)

Aaaaahhhhhh! This to me is one of the beauties of CMON - its unabashed democracy. We are here rating things on which people can be highly opinionated - artistic endeavors. Everybody gets to have thier say and everybody is free to interpret the grading scale however they want. I dare say you would be hard pressed to find two people who agree perfectly on any one mini here. It\'s a beautiful thing

Me for one.
A while back I was talking to this old Amish guy and I wished I were a portrait painter because he had an amazing face. Then I realized just how dark the lines around his eyes were - no, the Amish don\'t wear mascara.
Anyway, ever since then I have looked closely at line and shadow on people\'s faces.

Oh, and I always do dark lines around eyes now because they really are there!

Not even dauber and supervike? ??? They look the same, they speak the same. It perplexes my little mind why they might not agree.

8 is a very good ranking

I agree in thinking that it\'s ranking more around 7 than 8.

It\'s a great paintjob, probably better than I can do. The light from the blue sprites are nice, though it is a very strong contrast (too strong, probably) in what is otherwise a very subdued, pale colour scheme. The wood looks too soft, it probably could have done with some sharper highlights or artificial shadows on the underside. The base is a mess, I think it would have been better if it was just a standard sand/flock.

But in the end, the mini just doesn\'t \'grab\' my attention and make me go \'wow\'. That is what the higher scores are reserved for when I look at models.

Nicely painted, but not amazing.

And I have no idea who the painter is, or what her previous minis look like so there is no bias towards or against her based on her previous merits.

I agree with Waffles, nice paint jobs can be found everywhere, but ones that make you go WOW and grab your attention.....they are more rare:)
