I\'ve decided to create a duel that really has some dynamic motion to it. My biggest complaint with warhammer stuff is that its mostly pretty static.

The Scene!
Im going to be copying the poses from this scene from the movie 300
300boot.jpg

It will be an Imperial guard holding a rifle in both hands,(across his chest) Kicking a Kroot in the chest, knocking him into a wall.

I\'ll first be working on the kroot, because i have about 10 of the plastic models right now. Hopefully, i wont mess them all up and be able to piece somthing together from it.

Any tips or suggestions on how to execute this would be great.

The best advice I can give is pick apart the bare anatomy.. Kroot have slightly different rules to the norm but in general there are rules on how anatomy works and trust me once you start going for dynamic poses in GW kits you start to realise just how far off they are. The key to nice dynamism and interaction is to get the base anatomy right first.
Then eye contact between the minis.. doesn\'t have to be a straight stare down but it is important..
lastly don\'t forget the details.. so many times I see lovely dynamic poses achieved a leg lifted or a body repositioned but all the dog tags buckles straps and pendants are still hanging in the same position as they were originally...

also make sure as your building you view the model from all angles..
so often I have made myself a great looking pose only to realise fom different angles to my main working view the bugger sucks..

Ok, great advice. luckily ive spent alot of time as an art major doing artists anatomy, life drawing, human studies, so i have a ton of books/literature on the matter. Hopefully:rolleyes: ill be able to make somthing out of the gw kits.

To eliminate the issue of dogtags etc being out of place, im going to file/scrape all of those off and resulpt stuff like that on after i finalize the poses. Im thinking that the hardest part of this is acutally going to be able to make a realistic scene. The more i think about it, im thinking i might want the scene to look like a kroot has stumbled upon an ig sniper. Perhaps, a rifle with bi-pod resting across sand bags, like the ig heard the kroot coming and made a quick strike to draw his pistol...
the more i work with the poses, and do some sketches, i think the easier the planning will get.

Warhammer mini\'s are unfortunately very static in most cases (some of the newer ones, ie Dark Elves are better) but it does make duel diorama\'s difficult to do.

That\'s always the case there is always a certain element of this kind of thing that has to be adapted on the fly but as long as you work out the base anatomy the rest can often fall into place as you go...

maybe on the ground where the sniper has been dug in you could have his body impression?? or a camo blanket thrown back as he make\'s his final dcision to attack..??

I look forward to seeing what you come up with...

Cool! I\'ve never been an inspriration before ;)

I\'m really looking forward to seeing how this works out. They can be fiddly beasts Kroot, but they\'re begging to be converted into nifty poses!

Good luck!

Not sure if a kick would be the \"right\" way to go. One the models (IG) at least in my experince are a pain in the backside to get the leg right. And two if the IG has a rifle, I would think that he would more likely to use that (butt stroke to the head/chest) as trying to push kick. But then thats just my two coppers.

@Mud duck - depends on the situation really, if you\'re laying prone, it\'d a lot more effort to stand and lift the rifle than it would to give a kick to the ankle or knee and draw your sidearm, but Just remember how stubby IG legs are if you\'re going to hack them - if he\'s lying down, his legs are gonna look tiny if kept the same length as regular GW IG
