Hi everybody! (simpsons stylee!),

Just looking for tips on what sort of lights people use for the above. I\'m really struggling for light cos I paint mostly in the evening with four lights on and a desk lamp and it\'s still not good eneough. Any ideas other than turning my front room into Blackpool illuminations?

I use a Samigon lighting unit, basically 2 powerful daylight bulbs (one above and one below) that I have covered the sides and rear of with white paper to keep all the light in. It is a bit expensive compared to the homemade units out there - but I am too lazy to have built my own. It gives me nice even lighting - now if I could just get the hang of my new camera!

not in the UK

Thanks for the tip, but just did a web search and an ebay search and they aren\'t available in the UK - unless someone knows different!

Ok, I seem to remember hearing that in a thread somewhere else too. I know I have seen tutorials on building your own light tents - anybody have a link to one to help out here?

I have two halogen lights, which are insanely bright...I only need to use one for painting, but you need to be sure you have two for photography, because unless you have \'em balanced, the halgon casts a lot of shadow. It drowns out normal light bulbs...

I went through the photo lighting problem and did get the revel bulbs but instead of that name Phillips makes a bulb called \"natural\" I found a bulb ring in the same light for the swing arm magnifier as well.
I also needed a tent but to purchase one was costly. I looked at the articles from Finn reference.
I constructed a light box from 90 degrees slip elbows and tees with 1/2 \" pipe the hardware stores carry for sprinkler systems . I can break it down when I need to for storage and hang it out of the way when not in use. They had a drop cloth for outdoor painting that works it is a cloth covered plastic flame resistant for high temps from the bulbs. and with three - 2 dollar clamp work lights with the natural bulbs. I did crack the coffee table glass trying to under light but have since replaced with Plexiglas. Tis like a mini pup tent for the wee ones.

I am working on figuring out this one as well. Mayne Thiele has an excellent web site here that details how he does photography as well as several other tips.
Hope this helps!
