Just lookin for some advice here... Should be trying out some NMM in preparation for some army painting...

I got a base coat of 50\\50 codex grey\\shadow grey rolling with like, a wash or 2 of black in the mix.

zilch on the highlights...

Basically, I would guesstimate for a basic attempt: mix in fortress grey and that light bluish grey ghostly maybe? Then white.
Afterwards shade with black + base color (shadow&codex greys)... finally use... something like dark flesh or some redish brown for rust effects?

Any input on the colors or process? I\'ve done like a crappy golden staff once. Its on my wizard in the gallery.. and its a crappy pic.. so i\'ve heard.

Sounds like you\'ve got a good plan! :) The thing with NMM is... you can use basically any colours you want! The key is how you place shades and highlights and how much contrast you put into it.

OK, here we go. Unfinished everything.

How are my highlight placements? Bright enough? I am missing some smoothness in transitions here. I especially think that the \"glare\" in the middle of the scythe is F\'ed... anyone else agree? Is it the wrong shape or just the wrong place all together???

Oh, and here is some inspiration from my buddy... he wanted to brag about thisl says its better than my skeleton:

PS: my friend and I would like brutal honesty too... That skele is his first mini and he thinks \"its the best he can do\" which is BS. And I know my guy is on the right track... but I\'m not happy with him at all yet... so crack the whip!!!

your looks real nice. although the shape of the scythe handle makes it look a little weird.

as for your friends, i can\'t make out any details due to the lack of focus and lighting

I can\'t say with 100% certainty as I don\'t have the mini in my hand, but it looks like how you\'ve placed the highlights is good! I think the scythe looks a bit too dark, though. I would do the brighter areas (at least that one in the mid section of the blade) larger. That will give you more space to make the blend smoother, as well.

As for your friend\'s mini, like Tim said, can\'t see much of it.

Hey anyone know the quick n simple way to \"fade to blue\" my pictures like everyone does (and pictured above on the rackham photos)?

What I do is print out on a sheet of paper, a page where the blue fades into the white (this is dead simple to do on word art) and then photo the mini against this.

There is a great article about doing it in photoshop under the photography threads, I believe Spacemunkie may have written it.

The pic is a little darker than I think it should be, and not too crisp. More highlighting on the weapon???? I had this wood handle nice, but I darkened it trying to make woodgrain... the effect sucks.

WHATS YO OPINION!
