I don\'t know if this has been brought up before, but here\'s waht I\'m looking for and I think you guys with your Infinite years of wisdom may be able to help me.

I\'m looking for tabletop wargames, specifically sci fi or fantasy, (I\'m not a huge fan of historicals) for which the rules are still available (either in print or for download)

I know most of the big ones
Games Workshop (40k, WFB, Specialist games)
WARMACHINE
HORDES
Confrontation
AT-43
Wargods of Aegyptus
Battletech

What I\'m looking for are if there are any others that would be interesting to play, and that I can find the rules for fairly easily.

Here are mostly SCI-FI or different genres....I don\'t actually care about Fantasy too much.

Wyrd (great minis, no game yet, but soon)

Infinity (great minis)

Rezolution (great rules, some great minis)

Alpha Forge Games (my fave)

Future Wars (copplestones thingy)

Combat Zone (fantastic gamer support)

5150 (2 hour wargames, fantastic support...use ANY miniatures)

All Things Zombie (same as above)

Spinespur (horror gaming)

Urban War

Void (all the rules can be found for free)

Undave

Flockwit
I was about to add Starship Troopers. The last time I checked a few months ago they had all these plans to revamp the whole range but I just went to look at the Mongoose site and it\'s vanished as if it never existed and I can\'t find anything in the news section on their site about totally discontinuing it. Can someone clue me in on what happened???

I think I read where Moongoose is getting out of the mini business...but not the rules and gaming business.

I think Starship Troopers is going to still exist in print form.

Another cool looking Sci-Fi Setting, with an oddity of miniatures is RAMSHACKLE GAMES\' Nuclear Renassiance.

There\'s hundred of games you can get for free on Freewargamesrules.co as well...

http://www.freewargamesrules.co.uk/

I usually suggest this one for people wanting to write their own rules to see what\'s already out there, but no reason not to use it to find a game to play.

Ones I like I didn\'t see listed already:

Gangs of Mega City One
Tanhausser
Runebound
Heroquest

The various Collectable Mini games:
Dungeons and Dragons Minis
Star Wars Minis
HeroClix
HorrorClix
HaloClix
Mechwarrior
Mageknight
Axis and Allies
MonsterApocalypse

There are tons out there.

At leat my board games come with minis :D

If we are just talking good boardgames I would have listed Starfarers of Catan.

I did think of another good one though, that\'s a mix of boardgame and mini game. That\'s Battlelore. One of my current favourites, though I still haven\'t painted up a single unit.

...

am still sculpting minis for the ..greens, the eggs are all done....:)

Okay then, I stand corrected, and impressed. Those could be saleable.

If you do some Snits and Organs from Snit\'s Revenge I just might have to buy them.

EDIT: I just thought of something from Snit\'s that may not work with minis, IIRC you have to balance snit chits on your nose, and the number you can balance is the number you get to use... that could be hard with minis.

So as to not totally steal the thread:

A game that was hugely popular when I was in University that still seems to be supported, at least on the web, is Star Fleet Battles. One of the best Ship to Ship combat systems out there.

Another one that one of my forum members keeps posting battle reports for that has me very interested is: Legends of the High Seas.

I don\'t know much about Heavy Gear, but I do know that I was impressed with the way it looked at Gencon last year. I keep meaning to look deeper into it.

Definitely worth a look: It\'s what got me into miniature painting in the first place. I picked up a cheap copy of HG2 for the PC, was really impressed by it, checked out Dream Pod 9\'s website to learn about the RPG/Minis Game, was so impressed by it that I almost immediately went and bought some minis and painting stuff. And this was after years of curiously browsing 40K and Battletech minis and sourcebooks every so often.

You should be able to find some old-edition books on the cheap to introduce you to the game and world. Fun stuff!

If you like the imagery of Heavy Gear you should check out the anime \"Armored Trooper Votoms.\" Heavy Gear borrows heavily from Votoms \"look and feel.\"
