Little help with silver NMM

Hi guys, after painting a couple of Mid-Nors with normal metallics I felt like doing something special and built a nice Rackham style base and wanted to the little fellow in Rackham style(so all the metals in NMM). I\'m happy the way the sword came out and wanted to keep it dark. But imo the armourplates just don\'t look right, so do you guys think, highlight it more by adding more white to the mix? Here is a scan of the mini btw:

For a really bright silver I would say to restrict your pallete to three colors. Pure white, black, blue, and of course combos there of. One thing that makes for a \'bright\' really shiny look is to use the full range from pure white to pure black. Alot of NMM tends to stay in the middle, and dont get me wrong it looks good, but that little extra kick especially a bit of pure black really \'does it\'. smooth, smooth, smooth blending. I know I have struggled with NMM for those very reasons. (blending and \'staying in the middle\') It is as if you need to force yourself to push the highlights (and lowlights) to the extreme, but when done correctly the results are great.

A great NMM colour is GW\'s Shadow grey. Use it by itself (plus white of course) or add it to your usual NMM grey mix. It really helps giving that extra spark.

Has anyone got a good Gold NMM recipe btw. I used Bestial Brown+Vomit Brown>Vomit Brown>Vomit Brown+Golden Yellow>Golden Yellow>Golden Yellow+Bleached Bone, but imo it turned out to yellow.

Before you add the final highlights give it a thin wash of bestial brown.This will re set the detail and reduce the yellowness.
Well give it a try anyway,what works for some doesnt always work for others.

One thing to remember when doing NMM. It is a very hard thing (I\'m still learning). Be patient. It is a thing that comes from ALOT of practice and look at alot of examples. Look at some of the Dutch masters, Rembrant, and airbrush artists. Good luck.

I finished the little bugger, after 10 months of experience painting miniatures I\'m very pleased at the result. I\'ll have some real pics next week and will post them on CMON.

I use Thierry Husser\'s (a former Rackham painter, and Aark here, I think) recipe for NMM. He lists gold as using (all Vallejo): Green Ochre>Light Yellow>White. Of course, there are several intermediate blendings of these colors, not just three layers.

The Dutch masters.....It dosent get much better than that!!!!!!!!!!!
I stayed in a town about 15 km south of Rotterdam called Hoogvelt, Hogvleet (something like that) I have good memories of Holland. Except the night in Arnem when the youth hostle was closed and I had to spend the night on the street in the rain!!

That\'s to bad I live in a village near Arnhem called Dieren. I bought some unpainted Rackham Wolfen from a propainter in the Netherlands, and I have 2 weeks vacation so I can improve my NMM on them.

In a article on CMON(step-by-step guide of a Fianna) I found a great recipe for Gold NMM. Just basecoat al Gold areas Bubonic Brown and mix more and more Skull White with the Bubonic for the highlights.
