Lives of Quiet Desperation

I\'ve done a lot of what I want over the years - I\'ve seen the sun rise over the Rockies, and set over the Hawr al Habbaniya. My degrees are in what I want them to be in, not what was dictated at the time by economics or my family. I\'ve dated some wonderful women, married two who I\'ve also divorced for differing reasons, and live with a third woman who loves me for who I am, not for who she thinks I should be. I\'ve fought fires, pulled people from cars, saved lives, picked up the dead, and sent them to their final rest. I\'ve stayed up late at night discussing the ultimate in bullshyte, and watched aircraft land at night from the roof of a bunker during red alerts.

Quiet desperation?

I would say not.

Hmmm... not wanting to sound too melodramatic, but I think I fall in to the quiet desperation bit.
It\'s all very well saying \'take the initiative\' and make things better for yourself, but when you really try, only to have an endless stream of idiots dash your plans at every turn, it just gets to you a little...

That being said, I do agree with the earlier comment about boredom - I don\'t remember being bored (outside of work) for years. There is alot of great stuff, creatively, to immerse yourself in.

You miserable set of bastards! :D

Everyone has the power to change their life, it just seems that many people lack the bollocks to actually do it.

I reckon it mostly boils down to what I said in another thread - money shackles people. Mortgage, bills, kids, marriage, cars and the endless gadgets and status symbols we all seem to crave. All designed to keep us plodding along on the treadmills that drive our nation\'s economies.

Think I\'ve managed to make rabid consumerism work for me, and a simpler life (less reliant on earning buckets of cash!) awaits.

Agreed lol

I dunno, I wouldn\'t say iv\'e done anything extraordinary, but some people might say I have... I guess it\'s all about standards and which directions you wanna go.
When i\'m working on schooldays theres a set pattern, thats unavoidable unless I change my career lol but the weekends...The weekends are mine boy!
