my latest job for Dragonblood went up on their site yesterday...
this is a small unit of lizardmen, painted to look like southern alligator lizards...

these guys were painted almost exclusively with the GW washes...
i don't often undercoat white, but this was a great opportunity to experiment with tinting more than painting...
first the pics, and then i'll break down what i did for anyone interested:
very few parts of the mini are actually painted in the traditional sense...
for the main body, a heavy wash of Gryphone Sepia was slathered all over the mini, except for front of the shield which was washed with Ogryn Flesh...
next, a heavy wash of Devlon Mud went over the Sepia, while the shield was given a few more layers of Ogryn Flesh...
the body was pretty much done at this point, but the lizards needed a pale underbelly...
this was done with P3 Menoth White Highlight as a basecoat, and a couple washes of Sepia...
a little cleanup with the white again, and its good to go...
the shield was given a few more layers of Ogryn Flesh...
i think in the end it was about ten layers to get a nice rich look...
the leather was basecoated with P3 Bloodstone, and washed with some Mud, and a thin layer of Black...
the wood was given the same treatment, but without a basecoat, just washes over white...
for a spot colour i chose red, and used it for the belts and ties on the weapons...
a simple basecoat of P3 Sanguine base, a layer of P3 Skorne Red, a shot of P3 Flesh Wash (which has a nice dark red wine tone) and the reds were good to go...
the tongue and eyes got the same treatment, but his the eyes being amore intense red, and tongue bein' a little more pink...
the flint is painted black, and highlighted with P3 Coal Black, followed by some P3 Trollblood Highlight...
the stripes on the back are straight Coal Black over the brown...
once i sent 'em off to the boss, he slapped some bone highlights on just about everything to bring everything out just a little more...
not a bad result for an experiment in a completely new style and approach to painting...
