hey CMON...

finally, i've taken the time to paint a mini just because i wanted to...
i've had this mini waiting to get painted since he was a new release in 2001 (i believe)...

i think this is the first Termie i've ever painted...
hard to remember for sure, but i think that in all my 23 years of painting i have never painted my favorite type of Space Marine...
[EDIT] i'm such a stoner;)...i completely forgot that i have painted Typhus, so this is my second Termie...

the gallery image is still waiting for approval, but with Mike away, i don't know when the gallery will be updated...
i just couldn't wait to show him off;)...

i wanted to try my hand at the "French Style" of painting, with unusual tones and softer edges...
this is my first attempt at some blending instead of layering...
this is my second attempt at battle damage...
my first try was on the white armour of Kor'sarro Khan, and i wasn't able to get the strong highlight that i got to play with here...

painted entirely with P3 paints...
playing with Trollblood Base, Underbelly Blue, Coal Black, White, and Turquoise Ink for the armour was quite fun...

well your right about the title .. he's certainly a "GREAT" wolf . I like him ...nice work all round really chief........

VERY nice, Jah. I like this a lot! The battle damage is really well done. This mini wouldn't look out of place in White Dwarf Magazine alongside the 'Eavy Metal painters :D Keep up the good work!

A really nicely painted mini. The snow on the base whiting out the line under his feet really helps throw him forward, providing an excellent sense of movement. I love the armour colour, might have to track down some P3, the trollblood colour set really appeals to me. I like the way the cloak is nice & thin, the lack of standard model chunkiness helps it to float well, did you sculpt it yourself or did it come with the terminator? I think the wolf head of the skin could stand to go a little lighter in order to show it off more without pulling attention from the wonderfully painted face. I'm glad you finally got around to painting him, what else do you have stashed in the "if only I had tiime" pile?

Great job on the armour! It's really nice to see you experimenting and improving your work. The mix between a more painterly approach and clean EM style always give interesting results.. not seldom my favourite paintjobs come from that category! So not surprisingly this is my favourite paintjob by you so far. The only thing I don't really like is the head of the wolf that.. well it's a dreadful sculpt to begin with and you are probably right on not defining it too much :p but I think it would have benefited of a lighter colour on the snout.

it's nice to push myself outside of my comfort zone...
you are right about the wolf head,it's not very well sculpted...
i didn't want to draw much attention to it, so left it pretty dark...
since this was just an exercise to do the armour, everything else kind of feels like an afterthought...
now i need to work on effective battle damage on black, which was an epic failure here...

@BPI: my wish pile is about the size of a small mountain thanks to over 20 years of collecting...
my big one right now is some vintage 1985 GW chaos champs, and goblin heroes, plus some early 90's GW Confrontation (the game that became Necromunda)...
the Ilyad Vorag Champ is definitely callin' my name...
the Mcveys' minis...
too many...
i'm kept busy with commissions and minis for ebay (luckily Space Wolves have come back around to being the hot new thingmaking Logan worth my time), so my wish list keeps growing...

I paint my thumb.
Really a nice one, the battle damage is pretty convincing.
Only thing I could say, besides that part of the mini is out of focus, is that the face could be a little lighter to help the point of interest, since the mini is pretty busy, or maybe the skull on the shoulder patch a bit toned down, cause it distract from the face... sumthin like that.

Oh, your base looks similar to my Chaplains :)

Great job on this one, I would have to agree with the comments about the wolf though.
Did you paint the icons or are they transfers?

very nicely done, the face however made me think of "Yubaba" from the movie "Spirited away", but that's nothing to do with the way you painted him rather than his sculptor's choice of giving him such an extremely huge nose :p
