Lol this is what happens when I ...

So yeh, this is what happens when I decided to enter a competition the night BEFORE the morning of competition...I decided to enter the National Hero Painting Competition last night. Trouble is, the judging takes place in GW's across the country this morning! So this means that I have all night to paint a model - yay!

So being the person that I am, I could have gone with something along the lines of a nice easy Ultra Smurf or a black Black Legion marine - BUT NO! I decided that I needed to re-try my NMM technique whilst obtaining a decent white miniature. So, I ended up deciding that I'd paint a White Scars Terminator with NMM and freehand in the space of 7 hours, when I should be sleeping for a competition at my local GW. I lol'd a little but hey, here's my pretty much 5 hours in...

You can't see it but there's also a free hand V insignia under that arm and more black free hand spike on the opposite side.

Well, that is the first thing I learned in college. When up all night cramming for an exam (yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it) don't ever say, I'll just catch an hour or two. Or I'll just shut my eyes for a few minutes. You will go to sleep and it will be a sleep that borders on comatose.

If you're worried about falling asleep despite your resolve. Set your alarm but make sure it's on the other side of the room. Set every alarm your cell phone is capable of for 15 minute intervals. You won't hit the snooze on one alarm, you'll turn it off in your sleep and if you're like me, you can even walk across the room and turn it off in your sleep.

If you must lay down even though you know better, take a shower and get dressed, then lay down. After all those alarms go off a dozen times, you'll have about 15-20 min to make it to your destination on time. If showered and dressed, all you have to do is brush your hair, brush your teeth and put on your shoes. But down't get your hairbrush and toothbrush mixed up. That doesn't go over to well - but it will wake you up.

Coffee, just forget the cup and run an IV line to the pot.

Those are the rules I learned for surviving the all-nighter. hehe!

Sorry you over-slept skraaal. It would have been interesting to see the results of the comp.

What do you guys reckon - should I do the Crux on his shoulder pad NMM Gold like the rest or SENMM to contrast?

I think mixing the two different techniques will look wierd. Either one or the other.

Otherwise you will just drown the model in fancy stuff.

Stick with the alreadused method mate. SENMM will make the viewer think the other bits are off?

Gutted you missed the voting time, your painting time wasn't wasted though.

I agree with Mar and Will. One thing I read on Fontaine's blog is that the contrast comes from color and lighting. Use solid colors to contrast metallic and that would seem to me to apply to either NMM or SENMM. Since you started NMM, stick with it. My concern is that a person looking at the piece will just compare the two and see the flaws in both.
