London Explosions

As they live in a delusionnal world, from their insane point of view, as long as they manage to bomb something, they win. I don\'t think they realise their attacks didn\'t affect us collectively.
When they started putting bombs in trash can in Paris 8 or 7 years ago, I saw a girl sitting on such a trash can 3 days after the first bombing: no fear.
Terrorism -as we know it- is a form of onanism: they don\'t care about the nature of their victims nor if their action is actually politically productive, they are after fame, recognition among their pairs, and revenge for more or less imaginary slights. As long as they are in that glamourous delirium, they win.
Toute ma sympathie aux victimes et à leur famille.

I notice everyone is presuming this is some islamic extremeist group. Now I\'m not saying I know who did it (it wasn\'t me guv). This could also be anti - capitalist extremists, anarchist etc trrying to disrupt G8, anybody!

Consider all the possibilities (and there are many more than the ones I have suggested!)

Shaz, a group calling themselves \"Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda of Jihad Organisation in Europe\" has claimed responsability and, despite the ludicrous name, the authorities are taking the claim seriously.

It would appear that, in this case, it is the work of Islamic extremists, presumably ones that have never heard Winston Churchill\'s speech, you know, the one that ends \"We shall never surrender\".

Its all pretty upsetting to be honest, and even though all my family and my friends are unhurt and safe, it is still a real shock. I am just glad that I managed to escape the horror first hand!

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured, their loved ones and the families of the dead.

Take care guys

be good

Well as long as YOU\'RE all right, that\'s the main thing I suppose ???

It was fucking horrible and my thoughts are stuck on it. Can\'t get away from it on the radio and the news, but then saying that we all need to appreciate what these bastards have done. God knows how things work in this life, but surely they\'ll get screwed over in the next life (or whatever is in store when we snuff it). Preying on the weak is just rough. Bastards.

And let\'s hope that proper verification takes place this time, and that the authorities realise that they might actually be wrong about any assumptions they may make. Afghanistan and Iraq have been laid waste now, so who is left? Syria? Lebanon or Jordan? Shit, Nigeria has oil... In addition to the prayers already offered, could we perhaps pray that at least the British retribution will exercise some restraint?

It\'s curious to note that the last battle fought on British soil was the Battle of Culloden. On American soil, the War of Independence, unless Pearl Harbour counts.
[Edit: err, rev has proved me wrong, something about some piss-willy little invasion on some piss-willy little corner in Wales. And of course, it\'s the American civil war... :duh:
Ignore me, I\'m wrong again - as usual]

@Avicenna - wow... I bet that\'s a shock and a realisation that someone is watching your back, mate! Your beloved may just have saved your life, in an indirect way.

I really thought the IRA were in an official state of war over here against the crown and parliament and all that. As far as battles go, the Army shot some innocents in N Ireland which sounds like a battle of sorts to me ???

And as far as just killing people, the Army also opened up gun-fire on innocent Welsh miners on strike early in the 20th century or so. Bastards. But BATTLES. Got me thinking now!

Sorry, simply not going to be any major retaliatory strikes. I dont know how to say this without offending Americans but our government is a little less eager to go and attack other countries. We\'re more likely to go after individuals other than countries.

But who knows, if George starts whispering in Tony\'s ear we could be going for Nigerias oil.

But on the whole we just aren\'t like that. Plus this is a relatively small attack when compared to 9/11.

Well there we are, Fishguard, Wales!

1797 Fishguard
On headland w Fishguard, Pembrokes
Lord John Cawdor bt Brig Gen William Tate

That was the last battle on British soil lol.

I know our Welsh ladies scared off the French or Spaniards by standing on the cliffs near Fishguard (maybe) with big hats on - made the attackers think the army was waiting so they buggered off. Last attempted invasion that was I think, but this battle listed above....that\'s interesting!

Well, there was the message from those European Al-Qaeda claiming responsability. But as well, even the most radical and destructive anti-capitalist or anarchist protestors (eg the \"Black Bloc\") have never done anything more violent than breaking the windows of a Starbucks. Despite the governmental glee at being able to classify protestors as terrorists, the only killing ever at an anti-globalization or anti-capitalist protest was by the police.

Hi peeps - I was aware about the group claiming responsibility, its just that people can and will take responsibility for things they may not have necessarily have done (even if they wanted to).

Exactly what I was trying to get at... in a roundabout kinda way, trying to exercise some of that English tact. lol

Yep, and also the possibility that Al-Qaeda provides a very recognisable scapegoat, and might not have been responsible at all. Thus my \'prayer\' that the Brits will properly verify all claims and assumptions. I could probably claim all the stray cats invading my house on Al-Qaeda, and it would be believed by the CIA. Also, Al-Qaeda did not claim responsibility for 9/11, but \'they\' do for this? Not too consistant.

@rev - Oh boy, that link\'s a good belly laugh. With all the necessary luck and the incompetences, it\'s a wonder the invasion proceeded as far as it did.

The last battle on British soil was 1747? We don\'t count 1940?---348 bombers and 617 fighters is quite the sortee (and that was just the first day of 57).
But then again, it was an air assault by the Germans, and not necessarily a \"battle on the soil\".

As far as the last battle on American soil---wouldn\'t that be the Civil War (circa 1860s)? I can\'t think of one later than that----other than Pearl Harbor, but then again---the attack of Pearl Harbor I don\'t think would \"count\"--considering Hawaii was not a state at the time of the attack.

Regardless, I\'m just glad that all of our friends here are accounted for. I was worried.

No offense taken (here anyway).

I think al qaeda are a very good possbility. This attack is very much in their mould, and is almost an exact duplicate of Madrid.

Their attacks in the west have been multiple strikes, timed for maximum effect. In this case they have brought the capital of one of their more potent enemies to a stop. Dominated the news in at least three continents (Australia, North America and Europe), and sparked that fear over who will be next.

Time will tell and I\'ve been wrong many times before. In the meantime any crettin who acts as a vigilante and abuses someone on only the basis of religion or race is nothing but a fool. If al qaeda extended beyond a few dozen people in each country throughout the west attacks would be a lot more common, and even greater in scope.

Good point, though not on the mainland I suppose.
Once I saw a chilling picture showing a british policeman on duty with a group of ww2 german soldiers in full regalia in the background. Very disturbing.

The British don\'t \'count\' domestic squabbles (Ireland) I suppose, just as we Americans don\'t count them (Civil War). It\'s amazing the crazy claims you can make when you use language to your advantage. Our Gov\'t claims we have never fought a battle with \'Foriegn Invaders\' on American soil. The Civil War only involved Americans, Texas was a seperate nation when Mexico invaded, and the Japanese NEVER actually set foot on Hawaii. See how easy it is to use logic to bolster our good old American egos? lol

There was a lot of anti-Islamic sentiment around here after 911, but surprisingly few incidents. The few that had occurred we\'re of course immediately broadcast all over Middle-East news claiming we were torturung OUR Moslem citizens. This, in turn, creates more anti-West sentiments in the region and helps to establish a whole new generation of terrorists. Not to mention causing bad feelings with the citizens of the few countries in that region we can call \'allies\'. So please, refrain from a localized backlash, because that is exactly what these bastards are hoping for.

One last thing - since I mentioned OUR \'allies\' in the Middle-East I have to bring this up. How come Saudi-Arabia is suppossed to be one of our strongest supporters, yet MOST of the higher-ups in the terrorist groups are Saudi? Al-Queda is almost exclusively Saudi, and Bin Ladin is a God Damn Arab prince! What the Hell is that all about? Seems someone\'s playing on both sides of the fence.
