The British don\'t \'count\' domestic squabbles (Ireland) I suppose, just as we Americans don\'t count them (Civil War). It\'s amazing the crazy claims you can make when you use language to your advantage. Our Gov\'t claims we have never fought a battle with \'Foriegn Invaders\' on American soil. The Civil War only involved Americans, Texas was a seperate nation when Mexico invaded, and the Japanese NEVER actually set foot on Hawaii. See how easy it is to use logic to bolster our good old American egos?

LOL..yep...it\'s funny how that happens. I guess a war fought entirely with ICBMs would be great for the ego----;)

@MarkusTay: There is a theory implying that the attack against Irak was a US tentative to be less dependant of Arabie Saoudite about the oil and so put a end to an embarrassing relationship with a country actively supporting terrorism against USA. That would explain lots of things but I\'m not a specialist on this subject.

Yeah, we could. But there\'s nothing there, except jungle and rice, and some very badly bruised egos. ;)

Well... Culloden was a domestic if there ever was one, and support for both sides was far less polarised than with the American civil war. Now, about those egos, in these days of humanitarian diatribe, it\'s almost self-destructive to admit to being the kids who always wander off to give the kids in the other playgrounds a good thumping. lol

The sad part is...

We actually produce a surplus of oil ourselves. The Alaskan pipeline was forced upon us in the seventies, with claims about how it would end the gas crisis. The American people paid for it, and our wonderful Gov\'t sells 100% of it to Asia!!! Mexico is the third largest oil producing country in the world (they\'re a memeber of OPEC!) and now that we have NAFTA there should be no reliance on Middle-Eastern oil. Yet, the prices keep rising and we keep going to war. It\'s all smoke and mirrors, so THEY have something to feed us while THEY play their little \'chess\' games.

{and we all know who THEY are, don\'t we Marineboy?} ;)

Edit: This was aimed at Astorderire\'s comment, but the \'playgrounds\' comment made me laugh, Modderrhu. lol

I figured this would come back eventually to \'America\'s campaign to conquer the worlds oil\'...

I am of the understanding that my country gets 30% of the oil from the middle-east, and all we get is PAID for. Maybe I missed the \'free american gasoline day\'...I still pay a hefty price for it.

Why is it so easy to believe that the leaders of the most powerful, free countries of the world are greedy conniving bastards only bent on raping innocent countries of the only power chip they have in the modern world.

BUT, it seems impossible and insane to believe that those same leaders goals may be that by liberating these countries and giving the power to the people that takes away the threat to the safety of the free world.

Iraq and Afghanastan are laid in ruins? What about the infrastructure that is being completly rebuilt, the bridges, the roads, the power plants. What about the fact that females are now allowed to vote, or that people can play MUSIC on the streets? The elections were not a sham. People in both countries have been allowed to vote. Eventually, all the power will be in the hands of the people, and that is the best thing about this. The \'insurgancy\' in Iraq is most likely foreign terror fighters who cross the borders to fight the forces of freedom.

The war isn\'t pretty. It isn\'t going to be over in days. It will take a long time. Eventually Iraq and Afghanastan will be able to do this themselves, and our countries will leave them to it.

These Terrorist\'s agenda isn\'t that they are \'freedom fighters\'. They want to revert the world back to their 14th century mindset. Not just for them and their families...for ALL of us. We are considered evil not because of our foreign policies, but because of our freedoms.

If countries are harboring, and aiding terrorists knowingly. They had best stop.

Muslim and Islamic Leaders around the world don\'t condone these terrorists actions. I agree with NSA that they don\'t show that on TV...it isn\'t flashy enough. But, maybe many of them don\'t stand up and shout about it because they don\'t think that those terrorist represent them.

If a White Supremecy member commits a horrible crime, you don\'t see White Christians from across the globe condemning it. It doesn\'t mean they condone it at all. Just because they are the same religion or race does NOT indicated collusion.

Sorry for the bit of a rant....I just think we need to stop trying to point fingers and shift blame away from the true instigators of the war on terror.

My thoughts and prayers and heartfelt condolences to those who lost loved ones and to those still recovering in hospital.

I have no worries for London or it\'s marvelous people tho :D They are the toughest, most stubborn, humorous and unflappable people around.

For example: My very first weekend in London I went to Trafalger Square with some friends. While we were standing around all wide-eyed at BEING in Trafalger Sqare two men started beating up an older gentleman. Before we could do anthing (or close our slack jaws even) a bobby pulled up in this mini van. Calmly got out, PICKED up both men (neither small) by their collars, THUNKED their heads together, then proceeded to carry them over to the mini van by their collars with their feet off the ground! He tossed them in the back of the van (literally!) and came back to check on the older gentleman. Who had to be at least in his 60\'s and who had at this point calmy picked himself up-dusted himself off and wiped the blood away from the corner of his mouth. I mean this guy had been hit several times in the head and then KICKED when he\'d fallen and here he is turning down an ambulance! He gave a brief statement and then went on his way as if nothing had happened! Now if that isn\'t tough I don\'t what is!

I also think this was a tremendous mistake for whoever did this. The British have invented AND forgotten more about espionage and intelligence than most countries will ever know. While no massive retaliation is in the works I\'m sure there is a great deal going on calmly and quietly and that there will be a reckoning.

\"My life has been practically devoid of interest to anyone but myself-though I have quite enjoyed it, of course, in those moments when I did not seem to have been sent to occupy a largely lunatic world.\" John Wyndham

And let\'s hope that proper verification takes place this time, and that the authorities realise that they might actually be wrong about any assumptions they may make. Afghanistan and Iraq have been laid waste now, so who is left? Syria? Lebanon or Jordan? Shit, Nigeria has oil... In addition to the prayers already offered, could we perhaps pray that at least the British retribution will exercise some restraint?
I could contest many points you write, like, \"I still pay a hefty price for it\". Here, we pay over $3 a US gallon. The poor Brits pay far, far more. How much do you pay? No-one claimed you get yours for free. Yes, there are many points of contest, but arguing about them is not going to get anywhere. We\'re not going to change each other\'s opinions, except to come to the conclusion that the other person is a right prick. We\'ve all heard all the political speeches and the pro-American and anti-American, pro-West and anti-West propaganda.

However, this irks me; \"Iraq and Afghanastan are laid in ruins? What about the infrastructure...\" Please don\'t put words in my mouth. In the context of what I wrote, Iraq and Afghanistan are laid waste of invasion opportunity and retaliation. Take that as you will now.

Obviously, a mistake was the joking comment about Nigeria\'s oil. Take that as an attack on America specifically if you really want.

First of all, my apologies. I didn\'t mean this as a response only to yours, (which is why I didn\'t quote you). But more of a response to a general consenses of the opinions here. This is also why I rarely view my thoughts on such weighty matters. It is hard to have a healthy debate, with no ill will, in this manner. Mind you that is all I want...A discussion, with both viewpoints presented. I\'m not so closed minded or niave to think my country has not done some downright nasty things.

I was more just trying to get a general opposing viewpoint across. It is very \'en vogue\' to always blame the US for the ills of the world. You say that the \'pro-viewpoints\' have already been heard, but rarely are they heard here, in this forum.

My point was just one of sometimes my country is not really the bad guy. There is a greater good when all people are free, but getting to that point is going to be tough, and unpopular.

Its frustrating to hear blame towards America for not helping enough (ie Africa) then get the blame for helping too much (ie Iraq).

So, lets just cut to the chase and say we are both \'right pricks\' and be done with it!!;);)

To let my history geekhood show through the Japanese actually invaded the Allutian (sp?) Islands after Pearl Harbor during World War II. Though those inclined to continue the idea of never having fought invaders on American soil could point out that Alaska was just a territory then.

What a shocking way to get this thread back to its original point....

Were you on the subway, the bus, or what??

@medved - glad to hear that you came away, while not unscathed, with only minor problems. Is the deafness cleared up or will it be soon?

Anyways, I continue to keep all you Londoners foremost in my thoughts and prayers.

Point taken, and apologies for my defensiveness. You rat-sucking, bastard offspring of a genetically challenged amoeboid prick. ;)

@Medved - Wow... glad you\'re ok. But it\'s kinda sobering that someone from CMON was a casualty. There\'s just no smily for pursed lips and raised eyebrows.

Bloody hell Stuart - you sound lucky. Good to hear it.

On the subject of culprits, if it IS an \'Islamic\' attack, I\'d like to bet that some of the perpetrators are UK residents. I\'ve encountered some shocking attitudes in some of the predominantly Muslim schools I\'ve worked in up here in Bradford. Open anti-semitism, white hatred and Bin Laden as an icon.

Anyone who says that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq aren\'t counter-productive are wrong. They have created many disenfranchised young Muslims in the UK who are easy prey for extremist indoctrination...

I love the fact that we can disagree here and still get along. If only the rest of the world could agree to disagree.

Hang in there Vike, I\'m behind you. I\'ve refrained from posting several times to avoid being called a war monger.

It is impossible to wage a war on terrorism. Not with guns and bombs anyway....

The war in Iraq will create more terrorists than it will stop.

Sorry I had to give you a fact check-

Why does it alway have to be the famous battles that get all the attention?

I didn\'t intend to criticize US gov, in fact I find \"liberating\" Irak a rather clever while indirect manoeuvre. I\'m sure it succed in reducing terrorism against USA, trying to swap Hussein to something more democratic being a plus. Again, I\'m not an expert on such topic, I just think this could explain why french gov didn\'t support this war while they did it 10 years ago.
