Oh man, I started this dude 3 years ago! I think I bit off more than I could chew then and it might still be the case. I am happy with the conversion to a rifle and very happy with the mechadendrites but man that metal paint and all those angles started to get OLD. Tried to get some different colors into the metals which came off nicely in the bigger planes. This was the first guy I have done mixing paints to make new colors on my pallet and worked out a lot better/easier than I expected. Any (constructive) criticism and votes are appreciated!

I like the base. The link doesn't take you to the voting gallery. The transitions look rough, but i think a lot of it is because the photo is so large. When i shrink it down it looks pretty nice and i suspect it is real nice in hand.

The transitions are a little rough. This guy has so many different angles and I really wanted to push it with the shading on the metallics but he got a little muddy. It's funny, working on this guy he looked so contrasty but then putting it down for a couple of days and seeing him on the shelf next to another very basic paint job he looks so grey and dull. The mini was for a good friend, who was ecstatic, so that is what counts, although an 8 would have been nice On the other hand, the bar for 8's is pretty high these days! I guess I will just be happy to keep my low 7's... for now!

Thanks on the base. My wife uses these double sided tape dispensers for scrap books and they have the best little gears.

1 Nope you'd linked to the database image jpeg url not the gallery reference, easy mistake to make.

NO! no more tweaking! No more subtle adjustments! That's how we got into this mess!. I am going to cover it in a bunch of dullcote and let my friend have at it with his grubby Chinese food hands. I hope the next time I see this mini it will be in a puddle of spilt martini with all of his broken bits off in the bottom of a dice pouch!

Seriously though, I am really trying to focus on getting things finished. I am really good at starting new projects and really bad at finishing them. When I am painting I find I can rework the same little blend or shadow over and over again with diminishing returns. Then I get frustrated and the piece never gets moved to the "Done" shelf. So I now I am trying to focus on making less mistakes, planning what I am going to do BEFORE I start painting and putting some minis on the done shelf. I feel like I will progress more this way too. Plus, I then have a finished mini to play with instead of a half painted one sitting in storage that might potentially get a better paint job some day.

Hard call, sometimes you just know.
Sometimes you just have to make yourself stop, before you go to far.
One easy way is to give yourself a deadline, paint as if for a comp.
