Assuming I\'m following what you mean by chequerplate (the criss cross bit that makes up the majority of the surface right?) it\'s just some textured plasticard stuck onto some thicker plasticard. I would think you can get it in most places.

I\'ll give the clay shaper a try. I think I\'d probably use my sculpting tool to sort out my cuticles if I felt there was a need. It\'s great for removing plaque from teeth and avoiding costly trips to the dentist too. lol

I think you could probably start by throwing away all those games workshop tools and go out and buy a decent stainless set of dentists bits.

LOL and who hasn\'t used side cutter to trim their nails? Contrariwise dental floss makes great rope because it doesn\'t fray much.

OK, I have something new done. An Imperial Guard Commander type fella. The scan of it hasn\'t done the lower bits too may favours and doesn\'t show up some of the detail. Hopefully the painted version will show better.

I need to sharpen off some of the armour edges but other than that I think he\'s done. I did this one in stages and baked it a fair few times, which seems to have caused areas to crack and bobble up slightly, particularly around the face, but I can\'t quite tell how bad until I get some paint on it.

This one is getting closer to the scale I\'m after. Faces at this size are getting rather more tricky!

Been painting when I am probably too tired to be doing so. I can see a lot that needs cleaning up all over the place. Nothing is finished although the face is on the way and his right shoulder pad is getting there too.

Up at a crazy early hour this morning, so I got a wee bit more painting done before breakfast. I\'ve kinda given up on doing a completely clean and refined job by now and I\'m more concerned about getting the right kind of feel and tones going on. The mark above the eye is some grime from the scanner, not a problem with the painting. Included an actual size (ish) picture again because all of these mistake highlighting close ups are making me feel bad. Any feedback at all?

Right, I\'m off to make some bacon sarnies!

hmm well i really feel like his own left eye is a bit smaller than the other. and something about the coloring on his face isnt working for me. try using some more warmer skin tones to separate it from the red of his outfit and i think that will make it look better.

Yeah, the eyes are uneven, I spotted it once I had baked it the first time but couldn\'t be arsed to redo them at that point. One eye is also much more sunken than the other. I figure symmetry is something that will take some practice and patience and I have neither right now!

As for the skin, I don\'t really want it to be warm in any way. He is meant to look harsh and dark, and also quite drained (he has a fair old wound on the right side of his face, with his cheek and ear all torn up and blood dripping out that you can\'t see because of the limitations of the scanner). I also decided that with his slicked back hair he looked a bit Sicilian, so I\'ve tried to do an olive skintone.

His armour is brown with a hint of red, not really red at all, so if you are getting it as predominantly red on screen perhaps your monitor needs adjusting. Saying that, the two bits of armour that are unfinished do look more red. His right shoulder is more how the finished model will look.

If you painted the surrounding area of the right eye as scarred/scar tissue, then that could partly explain the slightly different proportioned eyes! :)

Its looking very good though. I wish my sculpting was up to that. So far all I can do it fur, hair, rope and tenticles :p
