I guess I must have missed out on that gene but I can see how it would be good for the survival of the species. I mean it would help diseminate genes though out the gene pool.

I take anything written by Desmond Morris with a grain of salt the size of Lot\'s wife. My theory is that a number of these genii were afflicted with bipolar disorder.

I\'m not saying that he\'s entirely wrong, it\'s just that I think that a chemical imbalance is more likely the cause. All of the people he mentioned exhibited characteristics described in the hypomania article and manic depression has had a long association with genius.

I just read your location. How is your chronosynclasticinfundibulation going? I haven\'t read Sirens of Titan in about two dozen years. I don\'t like Desmond Morris much either. I had a class in college about sociobiology and it made it seem that every aspect of human behaviour was run on the chromosonal level. It had me doubting or second guessing everything I did. I\'d ask myself, \"What is the genetic benefit of listening to the Clash?\" and crap like that! Then I\'d go drink a pitcher of beer. There\'s that risky behaviour, I suppose.

I\'m a bit of a crazy sod though. I\'d never think twrice about the concequences of boardsliding a rail on the slopes of the difficulty levels. And paintballing? Never been so badly bruised in my life...and I don\'t bruse easy either lol
I think it\'d be an exellent idea to have a CMoN tournament to test the theory! :twisted:

Come to think of it, just how many guys out there would say they were consumate ladies men?

I re-appear every 24 hours on these forums and then become unstuck again. Sirens of Titan was not his best work though. BTW I have read all of Vonnegut\'s books at least 3X each and agree with NOTHING he says.:rolleyes: BTW again; I like your avatar, I\'ve always been attracted to Bosch\'s paintings.

As for this article I agree with vincenti\'s comments completely!

I think the theory is interesting, but obviously more work needs to be done to validate the hypothesis. After all, we are a product of our genes - the number of identified human genetic disorders grows nearly exponentially, and I think it is short-sighted to suppose that our genetic make-up does not strongly influence our behavior as well.

That does not mean we should not be held accountable for our actions, but perhaps some people have the odds stacked against them genetically.

You definitely have a point. One of the key factors that keep our civilisation together is the family unit and on a broader scale the community. Its been shown that once a civilisation starts the downward slide to immorality then it slowly destroys itself. Look at the romans, greeks some of the south american etc.

Personnally I think the penalty for bigamy (1 too many mother in laws) should be enough to deter anyone.

Darwin never cheated on his wife, neither did James Clerk Maxwell, Isaac Newton never even married and, indeed, evidenced no interest in members of the opposite sex, nor, despite many rumours, members of his own sex.

There may be a genetic link to promiscuity, but to suggest that all men of genius are afflicted by it sounds like bollocks to me.
