Howdy folks.. wasn't sure where else to put this, but I figured there were lots of creative folks hanging around here...

I'm developing a tabletop skirmish game based on the wild west called Blackwater Gulch (www.blackwatergulch.com). It will start off as a miniatures game with free rules available online and a line of miniatures.

After it launches and gets out there a little, I intend to also release a boxed game that will include some miniatures along with a more board-game-like feel, with a board you put together as you play.. like games like Space Hulk, Dwarf King's Hold, etc. It will use the same rules as the table top game, only more simplified as a way to introduce new people to the main game.

Anyway, I really need some help fleshing the game out. The rules are more or less done, but I need some really great artists to help with illustrations for the rulebook, concept drawings for miniatures, and also eventually designing the different board tiles that will make up the board game. And, of course, I'm on a super tight budget.

Wondering if anyone lurking here might be willing to help out, or know of a good place to where I can find folks that might want to help with project like this? Feel free to reply here or you can email me at info@blackwatergulch.com. Please include samples or a link to your site/blog/gallery/etc.

Thanks :)

My son's on a cowboy kick, something like this might get him into the hobby. I'd love to help but I'm not very creative. I'm sure there'll be a couple interested parties here but you could also try DeviantArt.

It might help your cause if you define "super tight budget" lol. Elfwood has a lot of enthusiastic artists who might help out for free or token payment of some sort. Deviantart has already be mentioned. Just remember though, those with real talent are doing it for a living and those with talent who aren't are usually busy on their projects for pleasure. Good luck. I like the game logo you have.

By tight budget I meant more like I can only afford to get a few things done a month, not that I'm not willing to pay :) Although if people want to work for free, I'll take it :p Working 20 years as a designer myself, so I know what being a "starving artist" is all about :)

I'll keep digging. I was going to try sites like Elance to find illustrators but I thought I'd check around the gaming community first, I'd like to hire folks that are also gamers and keep it in the family so to speak. I want to find others that are interested in making a fun game, instead of people that just want the paycheck.

I'll check out Elfwood and Deviant Art too, thanks :)

Okay I see. It must be an awfully expensive business starting up a game. Artwork and sculpts=much moolah.

I think people at Elfwood should be a good bet, many passionate amateurs there. Deviant Art has some seriously talented people. Concept Art forum would be good but I think there is a large percentage of industry posting there. I like the idea of getting gamers into the process first. Probably wiser decision than some disconnected uber talented artist who does not play games. I only play Talisman really these days, but could probably be tempted to play warhammer/40k. Anyway, you can check my gallery if you like, click my name and view gallery. I might be interested in doing stuff like board tiles. If you have some kind of list of jobs you need doing, fire me PM's if you like the look of my gallery. I'm no good at drawing cowboys so I will pass on the art. I can manage a half decent concept art sketch for my own stuff and thats about it!

I commissioned a load of art for a computer game I never quite got round to writing. I sourced most of my artists off ConceptArg.org

Process was write a brief (including style), whack a price on it and then put up a forum post and see who applies.

Cool thanks, conceptart.org looks like a great place to find people.

I'll definitely need some help with board tiles and also papercraft buildings eventually. I'd like to offer the buildings as free PDF downloads on the site eventually. I'm thinking most people out there might have terrain for sci fi or fantasy, but not really for the wild west, so the papercraft stuff could be a quick and cheap way for players to get a nice looking board that fits the theme better.
