Looking for basing ideas

How would you base this miniature: http://www.rackham-store.com/boutique/images_produits/zRACLG003_1.jpg

I have a pretty good picture in my mind how I will paint this one, but for the base? I admit I am lost ...

Right now the plan is to place the miniature on a resin plinth (2\" inch Mini Plinth by Dragon Forge Designs - highly recommended by the way) and I have even thought about leaving the base empty, just painted black. I think this would fit the miniature, but I am really unsure ...

What would you do? A simple base? An elaborate base? Industrial? Urban? Something completely different? Help please :~(

Any input is greatly appreciated :)

For some reason, a ruined roadway comes to mind. Bit of a curb behind him, away from his face.

I don\'t know if it\'ll suit the mood you\'re after but with those hands how about a perfectly mowed croquet lawn (with hoop & ball), a nice hedge behind, perhaps a little fancy topiary? B.

Ruined urban is the way to go!

Failing that, the croquet lawn:D

personally, i\'d go for a kind of industrial/labratory look on the base.

that said, i would probably take a slightly larger plinth and not cover all of it, leave a bit of black showing at the sides.

No, be different.
Make it completely incongruous and creepy by putting it in a domestic scene.
Carpet floor, Regency stripe wallpaper etc.. just make it look as if it\'s stalking through a house in suburbia.

Good ideas so far, thank you very much. Some are twisted

Edward Scissorhands ... hadn\'t thought of that. Not exactly what I had in mind, but a unique idea

The suburbia idea is definitely appealing - I am not sure if I can picture this miniature in a \"real life/world/era\" setting, but I will give it some thought :)

Though my favorite so far is probably urban rubble/wasteland, maybe with a few scattered Giger-esque biotech elements. Exactly the type of base I have avoided in the past, because I have no idea how to tackle this ...

Will have to give this some thought and in the meantime keep the ideas coming :)

Ooh, I like Dragonsreach\'s idea better than mine. Of course I want to take it too far though :)...

Don\'t know how fast you paint but the timing isn\'t bad for prepping a Christmas mini. I discovered the existence of the Krampusse / Krampus a while back in Monte Beauchamp\'s Blab ( http://www.fantagraphics.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=122&category_id=108&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=62 ) later expanded into a book ( http://www.fantagraphics.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=488&category_id=271&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=62 ). In the UK you tell little kids that if they\'re naughty they won\'t get any presents from Father Christmas, then regardless of behaviour they get a stocking full of plastic crap anyway. The Austrians / Germans seem to have a far better idea, in the run up to Christmas you send the little darlings postcards of scary as hell devils, warning that if they misbehave the Krampus will beat the crap out of them with big sticks & they won\'t get any pressies! Marvelous, nothing like a December of nightmares to keep the little petals quiet :D Don\'t know if any natives can expand? (Just noticed you\'re based in Germany!)

Anyhow, the slicey fingered figure could be a sci-fi Krampus, just getting ready to pop upstairs in a trad Victorian home, to meet out some punishment to a little brat, stockings hung on the mantlepiece in the background / end of bed? Appropriate Xmassy colours to sell the theme. Nightmare in tone rather than festive jollity.

Sorry, you asked for ideas & my brain will insist on spitting something out lol B.

Looking at the figure I had the impression of him / it being on a seriously shiny surface. Something like polished black marble or a similar material.

Sure, here you go: http://www.rackham-store.com/boutique/liste_produits.cfm?type=848&code_lg=lg_fr&num=54

That\'s the Overseer Grim Golem from the Rackham Legends resin line.

Kind of depends on how far you\'re willing to take it. Like with the carpet, you could put a wall behind him with faded, tacky wallpaper (like harvest gold with a green weave pattern) and a big blood splatter on it, then light it all like someone just found him in their house.

I duno...

I have both of these Mike, and I can say they are top notch. Get them soon, as I have been told unofficially that R are going to kill off the Legends line!

If you wanna have a look at them, I can also special delivery them to you, just do the same back after you have finished ;)
