Looking for feedback and constructive criticism

Hello,

I have been back into the hobby after taking a 20 year or so break. I had forgotten how much I love painting. I am probably a 85% painter, 15% gamer.

I am trying to take my painting to the next level so I am stepping outside of my comfort zones. The mini I am posting for critique is a Forge World Domitar painted in the Agripinna Forge World color scheme.

My goal was to weather the heck out of the model in a realistic, 3D way. I started with a black primer and then airbrushed Secret Weapons (SW) Old Rust. Once that was dry, I sponged on SW Brown rust, Red Rust, Orange Rust and we bit of Yellow Rust. I then decided to through in some random spots of a dark silver. I hit it with a satin varnish and then AK Inter Actives Worn effects. I then base coated it and when it was dry I took a wet toothbrush to it.

This is still a WIP. I am using water colors to bolster the shadows and then I intend on doing some final highlights.

Any comments/feedback/criticism would be most appreciated. Sometimes it's hard to judge whether or not you are making progress so it's good to hear/read what people think and how you can improve.

I apologize in advance. I am still working on my photography skills.

Thanks for reading,
Michael

Hi
welcome back to this hobby. Things changed last 20 years. You asked for feedback, but it is very hard to tell something from this photo. You said, you used some rust colors, but it is not visible on the photo. Look out for some tips how to make good photos, make a working progress thread on this forum and post new pictures there. You will take, what you ask. GL

Thank you for your reply. I will try to take a better picture.

Did I post this in the wrong place? If so, I apologize. I will try to find the correct place for it.

weathering is of a fairly high standard not too much not too little, has as already been stated the image quality lets you down. Good job, keep at it.

I think what persifal means is, if you make a wip thread and upload pictures as you're working on things you can get feedback and advice as you go, it's a great place to learn and progress your painting. The model looks good, as the others said it's difficult to see clearly in the picture but it looks very beat up. I find the orange cables distracting though, they are the brightest thing on the mini which instantly makes me look down and away from the model

Yes I agree start a w I p it will help you as your going through your stages for more experienced painters to let you know what theyde do at that point. Even with the less pleasing photo one can still tell you've done a good job. How much or how little really depends on the idea your trying to have your model come across with. When you begin your w I p also if you feel someone you get advice from isn't what your looking for then you can just simply not follow through on it. You basically subscribe to those folks who's effects your trying to emulate. :) great job in him though.ive been known to weather all my models , it's a preference you can take a look in my gallery or my w I p where I've shown countless time how and what results I'm trying to get when I do it .. It can range from sponging cracks and chips to pointillism (stippling) leather cracked armor . So 3 years ago I started my w I p and now it's been built up where all my friends, supporters and really great artists are always giving feedback and its helped me immensely . We all share critics and even get ideas on what literature and DVDs are the best for what one is trying to do when they are trying to find that perfect style which in the end makes the most important viewer(yourself) happy with the finished results.hope this helps bud. Btw the name is BaM or Johnny. Welcome.;)
