Looking for miniatures for this scene

I\'m planning a project - I\'d like to do a diorama based on a photograph I have (see below).

I\'m not having much luck finding appropriate miniatures to use, particularly for the bride. I\'m happy to do a bit of converting, but I\'m no sculptor.

If you\'ve seen good miniatures that are remotely close, I\'d really appreciate it if you\'d reply to this post or send me an email.

Not your typical GD-winning diorama; it\'s personal - I\'m sure you can imagine - and any advice would be awesome.

Cheers,

Michael

not sure how detailed they would be, but have you thought about using the figurines available on top of wedding cakes?

Pretty sure it would be easier to sculpt the likeness of the bride onto an existing figurine than to a scratch sculpt.

Also there are tons of 1:35 scale soldior kits from dragon which may be a similar size to cake topping figurines.

Just a thought, good luck with this

Not really close, but there\'s the bride mini by freebooter. You could easily skulpt skirts around her legs and remove the weapons, but you\'d kinda be stuck with the sunglasses.

You might check a more historical minis oriented site (maybe www.theminiaturespage.com, I\'m not that up on historical sites, sorry) for suggestions for the groom. The bride\'s probably going to be the harder one, a mini standing peacefully without a weapon is a rare thing. ;-> Some possibilities:

If you could add a veil, this one is a possibility. Her one hand looks like you could maybe drill it out a little more an add a bouquet. http://www.fozzbozz.com/default.aspx?item=26-GREENSLEEVES

They also have a princess fig that already has a veil, but it\'s hard to see the detail on the pic. http://www.fozzbozz.com/default.aspx?item=26-PRINCESS

The wings of this fairy princess are separate, if you\'re comfortable enough with GS to sculpt over the hole for them in the back. http://www.reapermini.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=806&cat=0&page=2

This one\'s probably a little too off, pose wise (and has a bird you\'d have to get rid of), but it\'s a nice ornate not overtly medieval dress. http://www.darkswordminiatures.com/gallery/p_set3womanwithowl.htm

If you want a very simple dress, this one might suit, though it\'s a very windy pose. http://www.fozzbozz.com/default.aspx?item=24-HFH030

If you could lose the staff, this one might work, though again a very windy pose. http://www.fozzbozz.com/default.aspx?item=39-MEO1032

Various other Reaper options that would require small amounts of customization:

I think your best bet from those is probably the fairy princess.
Might just want to fill in the slit in her skirt, or if you\'re brave, cut off that whole part and make the dress drop straighter.

Oh, I meant to add something. If you look in my gallery, there are three tribute dioramas to Dennis Mize. In each of these I made a bouquet. The bouquets were made from natural dried flowers. The \'leaves\' were from a bunch marked Candy Tuft. The flower parts were from bunches of dried Caspia. I used paint on both types in some of the bouquets, and it worked pretty well. I formed a roughly bouquet shaped bundle with a sprig of Candy Tuft, pulling the \'leaves\' closer together by tying them with a piece of thread. The bouquet placed in a mini\'s hand was just a simple tie, with the others I wrapped thread around the stems to get the classic bouquet shape. Then I rubbed the Caspia tufts to break the individual flowers free. I grasped the petals of the flower with needlenose tweezers, dipped the bottom very gently into a pool of CA glue, and fitted the flower where I wanted it in the bundle of leaves. The ones I painted, I painted both leaves and flowers prior to any assembly. I found these plants in Michael\'s craft store, but if you don\'t have one of those you could try phoning around to flower shops, I think some of those also sell dried flowers.

This is maybe as close as you\'ll come

Arab_ds.jpg

Selene the Unbroken, 2046 from the Dark Heaven line (Reaper), painted by Derek Schubert

If you just swap out the book for some flowers, she already has one arm going around someone. Of course, you have to picture her all in white. Reaper also had a Queen miniature that might have worked nicely, but it would have required more modifications.

The soldier, believe it or not, is much tougher. I found tons of women in dresses that could be converted, but the soldiers are all wearing helmets, not to mention many had backpacks/equipment strapped on, and were in \'action\' poses.! Foundry had a German officer that had his arm around a wounded guy, that you might have painstakingly cut apart to have his arm around her. However, the arm isn\'t around her in the photo, and I wasn\'t sure how the man pictured would feel being represented by a German soldier miniature. So, the next best bet would be this -

cic04.jpg

French Foreign Legion, from WestWind\'s Chaos in Cairo line.

The second mini has little equipment, the gun is easily removeed, and the hat is much easier to deal with then a helmet. Unfortunately, the miniature is not available seperately.
