HI,
I\'m looking for someone to train me in the art of miniature painting. Like a tutor so to speak. I live in the bay area and I was wondering if this would be posable.

Thanks Everyone,
Jake

Isn\'t that putting temptation her way? ??? :innocent:

Anyhow I think that\'s a good idea Angus.
All the books in the world will give you an idea of what to do, but nothing really beats the chance to actually see something being painted.
You can actually feel the penny drop sometimes.

Yeah, like Dragonsreach said, nothing beats a live human being. An alternative that is at least better than a book might be Rune Kappels painting CD (www.kaple.dk). There\'s some very good video footage on there that shows him painting.

What a good idea angus, posting that!!!! I hope you have success.
If there is anyone out there willing, I would appreciate some help as well. But angus first!!
I\'m very keen, honest, humble and very gratefull, I only require some solid tips from one of you excellent painters, as I\'m painting with guess work and info I glean from the internet.

No I\'m in South east UK, but would love some expert help as well. Just chatting and detailed explanation would be fine for me.

Good luck angus!!

Well are you in Cali?

I live just north of you in Santa Rosa. My brother (who I live with) is forman at a sheetmetal shop in San Rafael. About 1/2 mile from Dominics - the place by the freeway with the boat up on poles.

If you are looking for tutoring, one of the best ways, barring in person, is to post as many WIP\'s as you can. You will get ALOT of good, free advice.

Yeah, I\'ve been having the same idea myself, just never posted about it.
I\'d be in fact willing to go great lenghts and pay for some intensive courses. I don\'t know if anyone does that

Well, If you PM me we could always tip each other out of the dump in the meantime ;)

I think the French and Spanish teams train each other. That\'s why they dominate the GD\'s

Heck I would just like someone that\'s good to paint with. There is nothing in Houston.

Shaun,
Do you ever go to Gamescape on forth street. Thats my local mini shop. If you go in there and say to darren (guy dark hair no beard earings tats used to have dreads) that your a freind of Jakes and your here to give him painting lessons he\'ll either through you out or set you down at one of the tables in the back. (I\'m taking about if you can give me lessons. I hope money i$ an intere$t to you! :D)
Have a good look around the store. They have an excelent selection of all of the big brand companies (Rackham, Reaper, GW, Privateer Press, Ect...) and they stock all of the vallejo paints.

Just PM me and HOPEFULY we can worksomething out.

angus

P.S.
I hope that age isn\'t an issue for you...

@starfyre - Yes, ILM is (or was) right in the middle of San Rafael. It was kind of funny, they didnt want alot of SF groupies showing up so they located in a business park and left some of the signs of the businesses that used to be there up. You could go through the whole park and not know it was anything special. Where my brother works is in San Rafael in a very nondescript industrial area. One of the unmarked wearhouses about 100 yards from his place of work held a TON of the actual Starwars stuff..........and yes, I was blessed with being able to go through it. Got to touch the Death Star, saw the star destroyers, too much stuff to mention.....trey cool.

@angus147258 - No, I seldom get down that way but hearing they have such a comprehensive line I might have to make a special trip. I will let you know if I do.
I dont have any problem with age, if you dont have a problem with a chubby 43 yearold.
Like I posted above, post WIP\'s and questions. I wouldnt be able to come down enough to do consistant lessons and the overwhelming amount of advice you can get from this site is WAY beyond what I could ever hope to do.
Havent been there in a year or so, but up in Petulama is a place called Models and More that has some gamming stuff and here in Santa Rosa is a GS called Outer Planes. Reaper, GW, and Privateer Press.

I don\'t really know my way around in terms of finding mini stores. This what I know so far:
SF:
Metrion GW
Gamescape

San Rafeal:
Gamescape North

Oakland:
Endgame

Thats all I know (or all I\'ve been to at least! lol).
