HEY! That impaler tuned out great!!! I love the stone on his spears, the skin and the leather especially. Also nice work on the base, a marked improvement there :) I think you might need a darker back ground for the paladin, though. The contrast between his armour and the background is making it hard to pick out details. Almost like his backlit or something. The NNM is a good start too! Needs a bit more in the dark tones, but the mid-tones and white glints are well placed.

Critical Hat is ON:

+1 for a different background. I would try just wax paper or butcher paper for the Impaler. Or you can print out a blue to white gradient. The Impaler is the same color as his background so it camoflages him a little. Your reds and browns and gold oranges are all getting muted. Also there is that light spot in the background and it makes your eye focus on the spear shafts instead of his face and makes it look back-lit like Zab says.

Everyone seems to do black backgrounds right now, I assume because it makes the minis 'pop' more but I think with these earthy tones an off-white background will make a good looking photo. The Paladin might do with a darker background but see how you like the Impaler frst.

I think the Impaler need some edge highlights and maybe one more wash of shadows. But I would fix the picture first and see how you like it. You can always try some thing different on the next mini :) Bases look great! His spear heads looks a little dull maybe an edge highlight would make them look more glinty? Paladin's sword looks great too!

I think that both models are real good. I agree with both Zab and demihuman on the paladin being muted by the background. I really like the basing you did. As for pointers, I would listen to both of them because my painting skills are amateur compared to them. Good job though.
