Loose interest in projects

Wish I had a bit better job in that respect to be honest, far too demanding for the money - but having said that it seems pretty stable in the current economic climate, so its the lesser of two evils 
I\'m currently working like a looney trying to finish off some website projects that have been around for far too long, hence where the idea for the topic came from. Seems like the general consensus is to be a bit more organised and not commit such large chunks of time to a single thing in the future. Either that or get a new job that involves monitoring something

I agree to a certain extent on doing a hobby as a job. I changed jobs in May 07 and became a full-time web developer, from a domain administrator doing websites for myself/friends. On the plus point I\'ve learned so much and refined my skills beyond belief. On the down-side I\'m finding all of my odd little projects are a right drag coming home and doing them in the evening.

The problem I have is that i have to many projects on the go! i start something get very excited about it then buy something else and start that then by the time i get back to it im either not happy with it anymore or ive forgotten the mixes ive done for certain shades!! I also spend to much time playing LOTRO its a might to addicitive and then when i decide to paint i sit there for an hour and umm and aarr over what to continue or start and end up just picking things up and putting them down again and before i know it iv turned the PC on and started playing LOTRO again or go to ebay and buy more minis
my WIPs include over 3000pts of black templars (+ AoBR for christmas) 1000+ pts imperial guard, 3500+pts eldar (classic minis mostly) 2000+ pts brettonians, 1000+ pts empire, 1000+ pts fantasy orks and a bunch of one of characters and special figures im trying to paint for the only reason that there nice minis!!! and I havnt even plkayed a game in over 10 years!!!

I have an understanding manager...being sent home to paint for GD(!), being told to write fiction if i\'ve nothing else to do right then, and he came to GDUK08 with me! raah!
currently I have 10 projects on the go...the only way I can keep working on them is to have so many...if i\'m only down to one or two then if I lose interest I\'m totally up the proverbial creek!

Snap! I also have a habit of half way though painting something working out a better way of doing it, and just don\'t have the heart to re-undercoat all of the bits I\'ve done that I like. Have been an avid WoW player and played WAR for a bit, though thankfully have broken the bug - its one of the best things you can do and when you occasionally do play it, the game is far more enjoyable.
i totally suffer from the same problem. i get around this by setting deadlines. i force myself to enter my work into a game or a contest where it needs to be complete. i tell myself that it is important to finish what i\'ve started before i move on. painting can become very boring because of feeling forced to finish something. from experience...painting is theraputic and i enjoy it. after working on something for a few hours i start to take interest in it once again.

I\'m on sabbatical from painting at the moment. Started work on some Space marin scouts late october and finished one of them, but just couldn\'t be bothered to do the rest.
Since then I\'ve been just looking at stuff to get that spark of an idea.
Luckily, I don\'t have an army to paint - nor some pressing comission stuff, so it is simply one of the hobbies I do, so I see no need to force the issue. It\'ll come around again sooner rather than later I suspect.
I have picked up an awful lot of figures though - I have a plan for those lovely new Chaos Knights on horsies, and the Cold One riders. Both are just crying out to get involved in some kind of battle with each other.
Although I\'m tempted by the sneak peeks of the new orks coming out next month!
