Lord Inquisitor Hector Rex -brighter pics added 12/1

hey CMON...

here is my latest commission...
i was asked to paint Rex as a Grey Knight, which was fun since i've not seen him in this scheme before...

i tried to refine the sword a bit over my previous attempts...
hopefully i will do even better on the next blade...

i had fun playing with the glow from inside his gorget, shining on his face...
unfortunately, the white only shows from above...
this is an experiment for a really cool Horus mini i have coming up, with the red glow on his face, so this was a good trial run...
lots more to learn still...

thanks for looking...
i hope you like him...

Edit: here are some brighter pics that show off the OSL and metals a little better...

Great work! I like the OSL but it does seem kinda' over the top on the back of the ]I[ rosette on his back and in the shield. But it's kinda' growing on me and may pop from the right views.

That sword is really very good. You've captured the sense of an old campaigner nicely -- I enjoyed the damage on the mini. Nice work.

thanks guys...

Forgeworld did a good job of sculpting this guy all dinged up...
i like a mini who looks like he's seen a little action...

i'm glad the sword is getting a good reception...
i was a bit heavy-handed with my lightning before...
it's getting finer:)...
unfortunately, the nice blends are really obscured by the lightning, after i spent so long trying to make my fades look airbrushed:(...
next time i will only do a tiny bit of lightning, and a killer fade...

@supervike: i'm glad the Graphic Novel vibe shows...
that has always been my main influence...
comics and tattoos...
i love the heavy black lines, and strong colors...
as much as i appreciate a subtle French paintjob, i can't get away from seeing minis as comics and tattoos in 3D...

thanks again, guys...

cheers

Nice work! Cool style I think and good work on the mask OSL. Just remember, as I'm sure you do, how coloured light mixes with white light and renders the in between shades in an OSL transition. So basically - always mix darker shades with more of the colour of the material underneath.

I think the colours look a bit dull though, is that the photo? Otherwise a bit more vibrant red and blue would make this even better.
