Hi all.

A while ago we did a painting class over at the Wyrd miniatures forum, cheers Nathan.
I chose a line of Werner Klocke figures from Reaper which were very kindly donated by Wyvern Games, thanks Ann and Maya.
Anyway the basis of the class was painting using real metals and it went really well.

This was my \"teachers\" mini.

Lord Strongheart.

Let me know what you all think.

EDIT

@EPStudios.......hmm. I stuck that figure up at 8 and pretty much expect it to level mid 7.
Now I don\'t mind at all if people don\'t like what I do but please tell me why you are dissapointed with it. Im not going to argue that you dont like it , I would just like to know why ??
BTW when leaving critacism in comments I consider it good ettiquette to explain why in the comment.
One other thing.
What Demon ???

Well I think you\'ve been well and truely hit by a sniper, for a start.

I also have to agree in part with EPStudios comments I think that some of the work you\'ve been doing lately is far superior to this piece.
However I can\'t for the life of me identify anything that is \"wrong\".
It\'s really nice and smooth Metallics with great highlight definition, solid skintones and great golds but to me it lacks a certain Bite. I\'m not sure if it\'s the muted tone of the cloak or something else.
I wish I could define what it is about this mini, but I\'m stuck.

:~(

I agree Mike.
I got this figure a while back and am not really taken by the range.
Like you say yourself there is something Im not keen on but not sure what it is.???:D

Oh and Im not questioning the score or anything like that.
I just feel if someone is going to take the time to say they dont like something they should say why.
Not for an arguement but becuase its how we learn. Im not peed off with the commentor or anything cos they were very flettering with their comment about my other painting.

I do know what the figure needs to get a better score.....eg cloak freehand, better basing etc but I kept these simple to get the tute finished.

I like it. The metal and the face are very well done. I think the cloak is less well done and the base is definitely the weakest link - I reckon it needs some grittier texture on it to contrast the smooth surfaces of the mini.

The face is excellent actually, looking at it more closely.:)

There are three things on this mini that I really don\'t like that come to mind straight away.

1. The cloak, especialy the back view of it, it\'s not so much the edge colour but the colour of the bulk of it just doesn\'t seem right and looks as if iit goes from dark to light in only two colours.

2. The band around the helmet between the top of the helm and the wings. On medieval knights this is normally coloured and it looks strange seeing it the same ccolour as the helm itself. (Yes I know this point is probably just me).

3. His hair. It looks very similar to the colour of his armour and without the cloak I think it would blend in and be lost.

These are of course my views on this I know you can do better and have proved so on previous mini\'s.

Thump me later :D

I think one of the things that may make it look a little bit \"off\" or bland is the color choice for the cloak. The yelllows and browns mimic the reflections off the metallics so it tends to look a little bit monochromatic. I think a red, blue or green cloak would of changed the \"feeling\" of this miniature.

Nice metallics..I hope we beging to see more of them this new year.

I\'d say the metallics are certainly very nice and polished. I think as it was a tutorial piece was can more or less put it down to a dalliance or flirting with the piece rather than getting all esoteric and wrapped up in the work itself. Nice though, nice!

\"I\'d say the metallics are certainly very nice and polished\"

Im pleased you said that as that was the whole point of the tute.
Not good form if the teacher is crap now is it.lol

The silvers are quite nice, very polished, but I\'m not as enamored of the golds. They are very harshly highlighted and shaded.

The dull color of the cloak I think strips some of the impact it could have, though there\'s nothing \"wrong\" with it.

I agree the torse (or wreath) should be two contrasting fabric colors, probably those in the cloak.

I also have a problem with the base. The rocks look a bit cartoony: not rough enough and too darkly blacklined.

Skin, hair, silvers, and detailing of the sword handle are all superb.

Face is very nice, the rest is solid if a little bland. Oddly I\'m not too keen on the metallics, nothing wrong with them, and clearly better tyhan the norm, but they don\'t \"ping\" for me.

Don\'t like the back of the cloak much :|~

The metallics - as you say the whole point of it - are great. Love that \"high polished\" look. :)

Gave it an 8

I like the metals but the cloak and the base are weak areas on this mini. Its sitting at 7.3 I think 7.5 is right.
