Yeah, in fact, not LotR at all ... I got carried away a little while painting :) First, I read the background (yeah, for some weird reason, I have one of the LotR rulebooks). There was something about their magical cloaks that switched their color/pattern according to the surroundings. So I thought, why not. But as you can see, the mini turned out to be something, well, different.

I\'ve seen a much larger image of this so I\'ve had a chance to really examine the painting and I do have to say that the size you are displaying Elladan at here helps smooth out the blending a bit. The NMM, face and clothing, whilst still very good, are not quite as perfect as they look in this image.

Mind you, I think the same is probably true for many of the top rated miniatures on CMON, so it\'s not like you have committed a terrible crime, and the bits I\'ve just mentioned are still done to a very high level.

The cloak is very pretty though, and the colour tones in it are spot on. It\'s just about my favourite bit of freehand work I\'ve ever seen because it has a real mood to it. It’s also a nice variation from the normal way of painting LoTR minis.

I do really like it, and certainly think you deserved to get 1st instead of 2nd (as did your Celestine) but compared to the perfection of a mini like this , which evidences just how clean the job is with a nice big detail shot, I can\'t give it a 10.

Yes, I totally agree with you, Jambot13.

I\'ve had quite a hard time trying to somehow paint in a way that would cover up the flaws of the sculpt. As you know, lots of LotR models are cast somewhat poorly, and this one was no exception :( And the worst thing is, you only start seeing the flaws when you start painting ... The hair and the chainmail especially were my least favorite parts.

As for placing, well, I think I know the reason why it placed 2nd -- it\'s not very LotR-ish :)

That was on my \"soon to do list\".
Oh well, it can wait until I pick my jaw up off the floor and my bottom lip stops trembling.

Excellent piece of work. The leaf patterning is superb and must have taken an absolute age to do.

It would be nice to see a step by step for that level of effort...(Hint Hint)

Hmm, I like those hints. Unfortunately, I didn\'t take work-in-progress pictures of this particular miniature, but next time I do freehand of the kind, I promise I will!

And by the way, it didn\'t take ages to do the patterning. If I remember correctly, it took me only a few hours to complete.

As has already been said, phenomenal work on the cloak. I ran across it randomly while voting on minis and I kept having to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn\'t seeing things with that freehand. Wonder if I worried my coworkers? lol

Beautiful work, Margo!
