I\' just wondering about how good uality these guys are.

I\'m considering getting a few sometime ( that balrog on the snak peeks section of the GW site looks kinda neat), but I\"ve heard that some people arn\'t that pleased with them so I want to know what there like before I drop some money on them.

Thanks

I found the quality to generally be good*, but the sculpting style is VERY different from WH and 40k minis. So if you are used to chunky space marines it\'ll be a challenge to paint these guys. The scale is close to true 25mm, with very fine detail.

* there are some not so good bits - extraneous metal in places it shouldn\'t be - but mostly they\'re fine.

In my experience the sculpting is of high quality whereas the casting can leave a lot to be desired. Many minis from that range have terrible mould lines and not rarely there is a displacement between the moulds, which can be extremely frustrating to remove. I\'m not saying every LOTR mini is like this, but I\'ve come upon many that suffer from these problems.

I have painted two balrogs and they are well sculpted. It was a little bit of a pain to assemble because the two main body pieces didn\'t fit too well. You\'ll definitely need to greenstuff some gaps, but I think a lot of large models require that.

I have painted a few LoTR minis, both plastic and metal. I found both to be good quality, but they are a bit smaller than other lines of miniatures, so fine details such as the eyes can be a challenge. Mold lines do tend to be a pain (at least on the ones I have done).

On the whole the minis are not too bad, the sculpting is generally excellent IMO but what tends to let them down occaisionally is the casting quality this is probably due to the amount of detail in what is a true 25mm scale. The larger models as already mentioned need a fair bit of green stuff work (I just started to look at my witch king on his fell beast) but it is common with alot of large scale metal minis (as has already been said also).
It certainly pays to have a good look at the blisters before buying to try and make sure you are getting a decent cast. This is obviously not so easy with box sets.

I really like them, they are more \"realistic\" than normal GW and sculpted in a different style, this combined with the smaller scale makes them a royal pain to paint in my opinion.

i don\'t have much to add here, other than to state as said before, that they are great sculpts(some exeptions) but often terrible casting.:)

They are true scale ie. everything is the correct size it should be, weapons etc. Due to the New Line tie in, all sculpts had to be approved by NL and the main character sculpts approved by the actual actors themselves.
Get a couple of the books about the films if your serious, should be able to pick them up cheap now
