Mabel, theChild Witch

This is my entry into Wyrds Femme Fatale II competition, Mabel the child witch, sculpted by the very talented Cindy Dukino. Cindy really has managed to pack so much character into such a tiny sculpt and she was a real joy to paint. The painting was inspired by EricJ\'s fantastic version, which was a very tall order to emulate! However, I am a firm believer that if you don\'t push your skills once in a while then they will never improve. Whilst the painting is nowhere near the same level as Erics, I am still really happy with how she turned out.

Hope you like her, as always votes and comments are appreciated!

Its such a cute little mini, its hard to give any real criticism.

It reminds me of my daughter...red headed and freckled.

As I said over on Wyrd, using EricJ\'s paint scheme makes for the inevitable comparision, but you\'ve nothing to hang your head for. Lovely face, and the purple blends are great.

Very very good - at least an 8. Just love the sqeezed frog.
Any chance you\'ll tell how you did the hair

I\'ve always loved this mini and you\'ve done a really great job on it. It\'s nice to see something so different from your usual style too (no stubble on her lol)
Hair, base, gloop and freckle-face all look lovely - well done

I got to look at the larger versions of the image -- Orkydave actually managed several colours in the eye for a detailed corona, pupil, highlight... the works. Between that and the freckles this is one of the most characterful and masterful models I\'ve seen in awhile.

Brushlicker and Freak!
Mostly excellent, a few bits could be improved, especially the blue neck thing just isn;t that great for me, but considering how small it is you captured the character perfectly, 9.

How did you do the slime cauldron?

Wow Dave that looks really nice! I have voted. Where did you get this model from as I really fancy giving this one a whirl having seen yours.

Keep up the superb work!

Sadly it was a very limited edition run and is now out of production. It was Sculpted by Cindy Dukino and I think it was her very first sculpture as well.
A brilliant piece and done excelent justice by Orky Dave.

Yup, a really solid job. Her face and the gloop in the cauldron are the best bits. Perhaps a gloss varnish on the frog would be a good finishing touch.

thanks for the feedback peeps!

The hair was done bymixing blazing orange wirh bestial brown and a tiny bit of scorched red for the basecoat, then adding progressivley more blazing orangeto the mix, and then, when it was almost pure blazing orange, adding bleached bone progressiveley for highlights.

The Slime was done with a basecoat of camo green, washed with green ink to give it shading and definition. Golden yellow was progressivley mixed in with camo green to give it a almost illuminous feel, and then bleached bone added for the final highlight to tone down the brightness a bit.

Woo hoo! My second mini to reach an 8 score, and one that puts me in the top 1000 painters of this site!

Dave, that\'s not fair. You post a mini that\'s basically making puppydog eyes and saying \"pwease mister give me an 8\" How can it fail? I get enough of that kind of thing from my daughter
